    Immediate opening for a Plumber/HVAC Technician At Helena Public schools, our vision is to foster dynamic educational experiences that prepare all students for life. As the Plumber/HVAC Technician you contribute to this mission by keeping the District facilities in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the education program. You will work as part of a team of 70+ facilities/maintenance employees serving nearly 8,000 students and 21 campuses across Helena. Some of what you will do:

  • Repairs and maintains all types of air conditioning and refrigeration units.

  • Repairs and maintains gas, hot water and steam boilers and hot air furnaces.

  • Repairs and maintains air handlers, ventilators, cooling coils, and radiators along with other mechanical heating and ventilating equipment and terminal devices.

  • Monitors, repairs and maintains HVAC control panels and thermostats of all systems to maintain standard working temperatures and function per the designed sequence of operations. (Including, but not limited to pneumatic, electronic, and DDC systems & Metasys DDC computer based HVAC Building Management Systems / DX 9100 extended Digital HVAC Controller)

  • Examines district-owned and/or operated facilities on a regular basis for purposes of preventative maintenance.

  • Performs regular preventative maintenance and boiler water treatment programs for all heating and air conditioning equipment.

  • May install and test new equipment.

  • Accurately orders and accounts for material, supplies, and labor relative to assignments.

  • Assists with estimation of costs for HVAC projects and reviews design drawings/documents prepared by engineers.

  • Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, Local and Insurance Carrier requirements.

  • Review and recommend energy savings programs or initiatives

  • Performs all essential plumbing duties during the absence of the District plumber.

  • Work collaboratively with districts maintenance personnel

  • Provides emergency call-out service when requested.

    To become part of this dedicated team, you need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;

  • Completion of post secondary technical, trades or apprenticeship program;

  • At least three (3) years' experience and/or training working in a multiple facility evironment;

  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the District;

  • Valid Montana Drivers’ license with a good driving record is required;

  • Abiklity to read and interpret blueprints.

  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral diretions, and work cooperatively with others;

    Essential functions of the position include the ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as a toolbox and/or plumbing suplies. Occasionaly the empoyee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as motors with or without a reasonable accommodation. Salary is $37.44 per hour ($77, 875 per year) and includes a comprehensive benefit package including but not limited to paid sick and vacation leave, 12 paid holidays 1 paid personal day health benefit plan and retirement.
