Job Summary
Located in the Institute for Disability Studies Hattiesburg office, this position works directly with the IDS Executive Coordinator of Housing and IDS Case Manager to provide support for Project Recovery clients and homeless program activities. The position assists with providing information, referrals, and services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Interviews, accepts, and provides case management services for an assigned caseload of clients participating in Project Recovery and other homeless projects at the Institute.
Assists clients in developing long-term plans/goals to maintain permanent, stable housing and securing.
Serves as an advocate to identify and connect clients with appropriate resources based on individual needs and plans/goals. Facilitates communication with landlords.
Collaborates with Executive Coordinator of Housing and Case Manager to prepare all necessary documentation and facilitates Housing Quality inspections for Project Recovery clients.
Prepares and maintains required charts and documentation, including HMIS input, on a weekly basis. Ensures and maintains confidentiality of all client files.
Assists Executive Coordinator of Housing and Case Manager to develop and maintain listing of, and relationships with housing and other support services providers in Project Recovery service area to help meet the housing, utility assistance, furniture, and food needs of clients.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or 3 to 4 years of case management experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database and word processing software.
Ability to learn office and university-specific software.
Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports, and correspondence.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to maintain records of materials, supplies, time, and work performed.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure
Skill in advocating for the needs of others
