General Information:

James Madison University's School of Art, Design, and Art History is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor of Architecture for a full-time, one-year position. The successful candidate will be teaching in a comprehensive and dynamic architectural design studio plus seminar and lecture courses related to architectural representation, history, and environmental systems. We seek a candidate who brings a vision and enthusiasm to these forward-thinking courses that utilize skills ranging from research, hand-drawing, software proficiency, as well as digital and analog fabrication processes with a concentration on hybrid techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Applicants must demonstrate dexterity with and knowledge of contemporary global issues/practices in design communication and a commitment to heuristic education. In addition, the role of mentorship to undergraduate students is expected along with service to the design profession and academic community at JMU. Alongside teaching, other duties will require curriculum development and active participation in departmental and college-wide service initiatives.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: *At a minimum, a graduate degree in architecture or a related creative field. * Teaching experience in the field of architecture and design. * An active body of scholarly work and creative design practice, demonstrating quality and distinction in the candidate's area of work or practice. * Demonstrated commitment towards building an equitable, inclusive, and diverse scholarly environment in the studio/classroom and within the larger university community. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Active pursuit of research, publication, and/or exhibition related to community engagement, digital processes, or cultural diversity. * Engagement with, and curiosity about, haptic and phenomenal inquiry. * Preference will be given to applicants who demonstra e an ability to develop and teach one or more integrative arts courses for undergraduate students, and/or engage with undergraduate or graduate student researchers.
