Job overview and responsibilities

The Manager – Data Analyst – IT is a leader who has a passion for data, analytics and program execution with the willingness to dig deep into details, has the ability to assess the big picture and focus on process improvement. Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders across Digital Channels, Personalization and Loyalty technology as well as the business partners, as well as leading, coaching, training and retaining a talented team are keys to success in this role. This team would be integral to interpret data gathered from various sources and interpret patterns and trends and turns it into information which can offer ways to improve a business, thus affecting business decisions. This is a highly visible role with having insight captured and presented in front of VPs and other leaders. This role requires a strong communicator with passion for finding the signal in data and ability to come up with improvements to applications and metrics to be measured. Should be comfortable enough to communicate with the developers, business analysts, user experience and product teams and the leadership in influencing change based on the data. The team will also support story boarding, data engineering, advising on new feature development, KPI design, dashboard creation and automation for digital leaders and groups of United.

  • Provide leadership to a 4–8-member team (data analysts and data engineers), coach and cultivate the team at India Knowledge Center

  • Partner with Digital Channels, Personalization and Loyalty application/systems technology and business partner teams track new functionality and processes and learn the existing application/systems to identify and communicate timely insights into feature and system performance, define new data collection and analysis processes

  • Design and develop schemas and data acquisition, transformations, and data integration across the various platforms that comprise United’s data strategy

  • Build and maintain databases, data pipelines, and data warehouses

  • Build trusted data products including dashboards and reporting products to support Digital Channels, Personalization and Loyalty leadership that helps them make data driven decisions from insights into both business functionality and application performance

  • Communicate and share updates with US and India based senior leadership, along with putting together regular insight presentations

This position is offered on local terms and conditions. Expatriate assignments and sponsorship for employment visas, even on a time-limited visa status, will not be awarded. This position is for United Airlines Business Services Pvt. Ltd - a wholly owned subsidiary of United Airlines Inc.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Data science or another quantitative field (i.e. mathematics, statistics, economics, etc.)

  • 6+ years experience in Data Analysis, Business intelligence, analytics, and data engineering, with 3+ of those years in a Fortune 1000 company

  • 1+ year experience in a leadership/supervisory role

  • Deeply understands both the business functionality of applications/systems being analyzed and digital performance of the applications/systems providing the functionality

  • Develops and implements predictive/prescriptive data business intelligence

  • Develops streamlined and comprehensive data analytics workstreams

  • Manages and maintains project portfolio for the Digital Channels, Personalization and Loyalty team

  • Areas of focus will include, but are not limited to:

  • Predictive and prescriptive analytics

  • Data Visualizations

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability

  • Modeling and coding of data

  • Application performance analysis

  • Reporting and automation

  • Consulting with data customers

  • Intermediate to expert level BI dashboarding experience (e.g. PowerBI, Tibco Spotfire, etc...) to produce meaningful, elegant dashboards. Advanced Excel knowledge

  • Experience analyzing ecommerce systems: Web, Mobile App, Loyalty

  • Experience coming up with ideas on dashboards that would provide insights into existing and new applications / systems, and also translating insights into non-technical, lay terms, and putting together presentations for stakeholders and leaders at a MD and VP level

  • Ability to study/understand business needs, then design a data/technology solutions that connect business processes with quantifiable outcomes

  • Ability to prepare presentations for senior leadership and interact with all levels of management

  • Strong problem-solving skills, using data to tackle problems

  • Outstanding writing, communication, and presentation skills

  • Proven People/Team Management

  • Expert level SQL skills

  • Hands-on experience working with massive data sets (SQL and Non-SQL)

  • Must be legally authorized to work in India for any employer without sponsorship

  • Must be fluent in English (written and spoken)

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Master's degree in computer science, Information Systems, aviation management or related degree, Operations Research, MBA

  • Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate, Power BI Data Analyst Associate, AWS Certified Data Analytics, Enterprise Data Warehouse certificaitons, Palantir, Client Side performance metrics tools e.g. Quantum Metrics certs

  • 3+ years in a leadership supervisory role

  • 2+ years experience working at a Fortune 500 company

  • 1+ years experience working at a International location other than home country

  • Experience with Foundry/Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

  • Previous airline or travel industry experience is a plus

  • Experience with AWS - Redshift, Quicksight, Athena

  • Experience with Big Query

  • Experience with Quantum Metrics and Akamai, Technologies and languages: Python, Spark, R, etc.

  • Continuous integration & delivery using Agile methodologies

  • Data engineering experience with transportation/airline industry
