To meet our growing UK business needs and future development aspirations we are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Lighting & Energy Solutions team.

YOUR NEW ROLE, WHATS INVOLVED?

You will lead low voltage electrical design and consultancy services for nationally significant clients, supporting technical leads on complex engineering projects. You can expect to work on a diverse range of projects for clients in major public and private sector organisations and will become part of a respected and ambitious company supported with excellent career prospects and international opportunities. The type of work we undertake is extremely varied but includes:

• Small and large scale Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure feasibility studies, design, and technical assurance roles. A wide variety ranging from low powered local authority (LEVI) chargers right through to major multi-vector refuelling hubs integrating megawatt charging systems and other low carbon fuels.

• Specification and design of renewable energy generation & energy storage systems to support our client’s decarbonisation and net-zero goals and delivery a more sustainable world.

• The design of innovative urban realm regeneration projects by creating beautiful, vibrant and pleasant public spaces for people to work, live and play in.

• Highway electrical design and assurance across local authority and National Highways client bases.

No two days will be the same, but you could be expected to,

• Assume the position of design team lead on projects, taking the responsibility of the project delivery in a right first-time approach focusing on high-quality outputs. The identification and management of risks is a key aspect to ensure designs are safe and compliance with CDM regulations.

• Within the role of design team lead you will undertake regular project technical reviews to ensure your design team have correctly understood the scope of works and progressing in the correct manner.

• Ensure that your projects have the right resource levels and ensure delivery is on track, both commercially and according to the agreed project programme. Reporting any issues encountered in a proactive and timely fashion.

• Using your knowledge and experience to support and develop all team members with electrical design principles and practical considerations to aid their future professional development.

• Support the business leads by promoting our team and our high-quality project work, to aid future business development. This would also include maximising your internal visibility to promote effective internal networks.

• You would be encouraged to support with project bidding activities. This would require the cost estimating and drafting technical scoping documents for the electrical aspects within multi-disciplinary projects.

• The right candidate would have line management opportunities. This would require you to undertake annual appraisals, set next year’s personal and professional development goals and contributing to an enjoyable and productive workplace environment.

• Membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or equivalent institution of your choice and mentoring and support with further Engineering Council registration.

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU HAVE

• A track record of performing to a high standard whilst undertaking low voltage electrical design preferably within the UK transportation sector.

• Knowledge and experience of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure design and/or electrical design.

• Experienced in all aspects of a project lifecycle from bid stage to detailed design and supporting client handover.

• Experience (or willingness to) lead design teams, taking responsibility for their technical output, programme and financial performance of their work packages.

• Registration with the Engineering Council, to minimum IEng or preferably CEng.

• Hold City & Guilds 18th Edition Wiring Regulation certification (C&G 2382).

• Experience with the following software packages is beneficial but not essential AutoCAD, Trimble Amtech ProDesign and Modecsoft ElectricalOM.
