Job Summary

Operates positron emissions tomography / computerized tomography (PET/CT) imaging equipment and injector and prepares radiopharmaceuticals for PET imaging studies to produce images for the interpretation by, and at the request of a licensed practitioner. Provides appropriate patient care and recognize patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Completes work in an independent, professional manner with minimal supervision and assists in an facilitates employee development.

Essential Functions

  • Operates PET/CT imaging equipment, contrast injector and computer processing equipment for PET/CT studies by following professional, hospital and regulatory protocols to provide physicians with diagnostic images utilized to identify and / or plan appropriate patient treatment.

  • Prepares and administers radioactive agents by adhering to established procedures for intravenous (IV) injection of agents to ensure accurate diagnostic testing and/or imaging. Performs glucose monitoring of patient prior to injection of isotope. Monitors and records radiation levels in hot lab, scan room, storage areas and patient rooms. Adheres to standards for radiation safety and for appropriate waste separation and disposal of radioactive agents by performing specific governmental mandates.

  • Assists lead with responsibilities for quality control, radiation safety, American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation, and policy, procedure and form development. Assists scheduler in ensuring patient compliance for testing. Gives in-services/presentations as requested.

  • Maintains imaging, hot lab, radiopharmaceuticals and processing equipment by performing periodic quality control tests and checking equipment performance and quality of agents administered in accordance with department standards to ensure patient safety. Contacts service personnel and notifies management/ lead of malfunctioning equipment.

  • Reviews supply and purchase of materials used in department operation and looks for cost effective changes. Assists in monitoring of protocol implementation and updates.

  • Assignments are moderately complex; follows established protocols and has some flexibility in exercising judgment within established parameters. Works under minimal supervision/instruction; may serve as technical specialist/trainer and mentor to less experienced staff.

Qualifications

  • Required Associate's Degree or equivalent years of experience in related field

  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree

  • 2 years of relevant experience PET Required

  • CRT-Positron Emission Tomography (PET) - NMTCB Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board Upon Hire required And

  • CRT-Computerized Tomography (CT) - NMTCB Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board 2 Yrs required Or

  • CRT-Computerized Tomography (CT) - ARRT American Registry of Radiologic Technologist 2 Yrs required

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required
