We are seeking a CAD Field Technician to join our team in Grand Rapids, Michigan . This position performs a variety of technical engineering-related office and field tasks involved in the planning, design, and construction of power utility systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Produces construction drawings, maps, diagrams, and reports as needed using AutoCAD, ESRI, & MS Office software

  • Site visits for construction staking of power utility transmission and distribution line projects

  • Field inspection of power utility construction projects

  • Performs field mapping services utilizing GPS devices on overhead & underground lines and equipment

  • Performs field inventory of joint-use attachments to utility poles

  • Preparation of construction drawings for substation, transmission and distribution line projects

  • Assistance with permitting for power utility construction projects

  • Operate and maintain company vehicles

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • An Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Geography, GIS, or related discipline or equivalent experience in a similar position is preferred

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications

  • 0-4 years or more familiarity with utility infrastructure and mapping systems, including ESRI-based products

  • Must be able to understand mapping terminology, survey, and GIS concepts

  • Must be able to operate, maintain, and protect expensive survey equipment, including GPS units, laser range finders, and electronic transits

  • Capable of working primarily in an outdoor work environment and office environment

  • Must be able to carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 80 lbs. occasionally with or without an accommodation, sometimes over substantial distances

  • Must have a valid driver's license
