Job purpose :

The Engineering Reliability Manager is a crucial role within the Engineering

Department that needs to perform at a high level with a very critical eye with a high statistical approach. The Engineering and Reliability Manager will provide technical solutions and expertise to Operations, Maintenance, building, plant infrastructure and utilities. The Engineering and Reliability Manager will manage and oversee the site engineering team responsible for operational reliability and top loss improvements, capital projects and maintenance/engineering solutions to manufacturing-related processes. This individual will plan, direct, and coordinate team activities including all projects with necessary vendors and in-house resources. They are responsible for ensuring and improving the performance, productivity, and efficiencies for the plant through provision of effective methods, controls, and strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform design of experiments (DOE) to redesign systems creating chronic issues and develop

  • sustainable solutions.

  • Collaborate with a team of engineers in an extremely fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Serve as a top resource and technical expert for the plant in all disciplines of maintenance, equipment processes and production.

  • Engineer solutions using poka-yoke mentality to improve equipment reliability including all operations and plant utilities. Lead technical BDA and RCA programs.

  • Failure analysis to recommend operational, maintenance, and process changes so as to maximize equipment.

  • Develop and improve upon the CMMS strategy for the facility.

  • Work hand in hand with plant vendors to reverse engineer critical parts/components of equipment. Ensure quality parts are made to specification and assign revisions for precise documentation.

  • Lead the planning and implementation of capital projects with engineers and project managers. Develop plans, manage project budget, plan and schedule project timelines, track project deliverables using appropriate tools, provide direction and support to project team, constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders, implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve desired project outputs and evaluations and assessment of project results.

  • Ability to reverse engineer OEM parts and assemblies to improve the machine and assembly performance.

  • Managing reliability KPIs and department goals incorporating analytical tools to improve reliability, monitor performance, discover root cause, MTBF, and other strategies to implement improvements to eradicate variances. Provide technical support where necessary.

  • Develop, assist, support, and collaborate to maintain a continuous improvement culture throughout the entire facility, across all departments forging an innovative environment which utilizes data tools available to drive root causes.

  • Driving facility improvements through proper SOP’s and ensuring that all personnel within the department have been trained on the SOP’s.

  • Implement moderately complex reliability excellence activities and identify and prioritize reliability engineering value creation opportunities.

  • Prepare technical reviews of moderately complex projects and collaborate with related areas on new equipment reliability specifications.

  • Perform the identification and elimination of bad actors and the optimization of equipment availability.

  • Collaborate with and provide guidance to maintenance repairs and production in reliability related processes and the identification of critical spares.

  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/qualifications required:

  • Engineering degree required.

  • Knowledge of NH3 compressors, air compressors, boilers, HVAC, and other support equipment is a must.

  • Preferred minimum of 5+ experience in Consumer Packaging Goods or directly related to the duties and responsibilities.

  • Ability to update P&ID’s, mechanical/electrical prints (CAD/SolidWorks preferred)

  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.

  • Able to maintain confidentiality of records and information.

  • Skilled in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgements on sensitive, confidential issues.

  • Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

  • Ability to analyze and assess training and development needs.

  • Skilled in BDA and RCA initiatives with the ability to lead those programs.

  • Knowledge of computerized information systems used in quality assurance, maintenance, and ERP applications.

  • Knowledge of budgeting cost estimating and fiscal management principles and procedures

  • Able to understand and utilize engineering drawings, operating manuals, and blueprints to conduct business.

  • Able to stand for extended periods of time, lift a minimum of 40 lbs. on an occasional basis, and able to climb ladders and work at elevations of 75 feet.

  • Ability to handle ambiguity and work in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Ability to work all shifts including off shifts.

  • Previous automation experience preferred.

  • Aseptic/Dairy experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of USDA, State, Federal regulations for a dairy manufacturing facility a plus

  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: Stands, walks, and sits during completion of job responsibilities.

  • Lifting/Carrying: Occasional lifting requirements as job demands. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced high demand production facilities and the ability to be able to perform those duties.

  • Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety.

  • Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas.

  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.

  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.

  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.

  • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.

  • In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required.
