We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity.

Job Summary

• Responsible for managing the assignment of work to ensure that Company and customer generated work orders, including emergency orders involving reports of natural gas leaks, odors of natural gas, damaged natural gas lines, fires, explosions, etc., are dispatched appropriately to field employees in a timely and accurate manner to meet Company, as well as state utility commission and federal requirements.

• Utilizes available technology solutions to their fullest potential to assign work to maximize efficiencies and enhance productivity of field employees.

• Serves as a mentor to other Gas Dispatchers, as a liaison between Gas Dispatchers and Operations personnel, and may represent Gas Dispatch department on projects, committees, or teams.

• May also fill in for Supervisor during absences.

Additional responsibilities may include:

• Manages and administers operations area resources and work assignments through scheduling and dispatching services.

• Assists dispatchers with concerns or questions and makes decisions regarding department needs.

• Coordinates and schedules department training classes and meetings

• Assists in emergency situations and handles escalated complaints in an efficient manner.

• Provides resources such as contact personnel to assist dispatchers regarding customer questions.

• Interacts with other departments to resolve problems and meet customer needs.

• Responds to questions regarding operations policies and procedures.

• Coaches employees to improve skills, resolve problems, set goals and provides feedback for training purposes.

• Monitors and provides coverage for work schedules including shift, weekend, and holiday work.

• Works with Dispatch Supervisor to schedule and approve dispatcher time off work.

• Assists Operations Supervisors in compiling reports on employee performance from the Mobile Workforce Management system.

• Gathers information pertaining to the operations offices, prepares and distributes information and reports.

• Responsible for assisting the Supervisor in monitoring dispatchers' compliance with all policies established by Company and all applicable industry rules and regulations, ensuring that possible violations are reported appropriately.

This position will be located at the PSNC Headquarters in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree and 5-6 years directly related experience OR Associate Degree and 7-8 years of directly related experience OR High school diploma and 9-10 years of directly related experience

  • Directly Related Experience includes: Dispatching experience (Utility/Military/Operations/Transportation/Police/Fire/EMS)

• Knowledge of and ability to read and interpret all operations’ office policies and procedures; operations’ standard practices; and customer service programs and products

• Proficiency in using a personal computer and related software including Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook), Customer Information System, Workforce Scheduling Tools, Mobile Workforce system, and Operations Dispatch Codes. Experience with SAP is highly preferred.

• Excellent telephone skills and etiquette and the ability to prepare correspondence to customers using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of grammar and punctuation.

• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, as well as decimals and fractions.

• Strong, demonstrated leadership traits including the ability to effectively manage conflict and model the Company’s values and Code of Ethics and Business Conduct; and share ideas and expertise to accomplish goals.

• Experience maintaining a sustained focus on work quality and safety.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with internal and external customers in a competent and professional manner.

• Ability to train, coach and mentor a team of diverse employees and foster an environment of teamwork and collaboration.

• Demonstrated ability to handle emergencies/stressful situations and prioritize work.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience :

• Prior Dispatch or Emergency Dispatch experience—mastery level knowledge of systems and applications typical of a Dispatch environment

• Prior project lead or leadership experience

Education Requirements

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

A valid driver’s license with a safe driving record

Other Working Conditions

• Work is performed in an office environment.

• May require shift work, overtime, weekend and/or holiday work.

• Lead position rotates standby duties with the Dispatch Supervisor every other week.

• Requires long periods of sitting.

• Hybrid - Position is expected to work from the Company office location three (3) days a week.
