Job Summary

The main responsibility of this position is to provide technical and engineering support for the operation, maintenance, and planning of all company 2-way radio operations. The role involves monitoring and addressing outages and user issues both during and after regular business hours. The Radio Specialist provides technical support to radio shop personnel during the installation, maintenance, and repair of radio equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, radio transmitting and receiving equipment, filters and antenna systems, uninterruptible power systems, emergency generators and controllers, remote telemetering, and digital control devices, as well as remote-control monitoring systems.

In addition to completing all duties of a Radio Specialist 1, the Radio Specialist 2 is responsible for:

Essential Functions

  • Analyze radio system health and network performance and determine solutions for timely restoration of service.

  • Provide engineering support and guidance for radio system site additions, system and application expansions, integrations, etc on small to medium sized projects.

  • Provide field evaluation and guidance of maintenance work performed at all company radio sites, and remote dispatch locations.

  • Coordinate with outside vendors in the procurement of materials required for the proper installation and maintenance of radio system equipment.

  • Work with limited supervision and communicate information that requires some explanation or interpretation on small to medium sized projects.

  • Ability to troubleshoot = problems that require working knowledge of radio systems that deviate from typical operational procedures.

  • Analyze requests and technical issues to determine best options and actions for resolution.

  • Provide engineering support on-site and direct various operating and construction personnel to ensure that all radio equipment is installed, tested, and operating properly.

  • Perform configuration, acceptance, calibration, functional testing, and final operational checks of radio equipment.

  • Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor's Degree or five years of experience providing technical and engineering support in the operation, maintenance and planning of microwave or 2way radio systems. 

  • In addition to the above requirement, 2-4 years of experience in a technology role.

  • Has basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience. Has industry experience including 2way radio equipment, network technologies and is familiar with processes and procedures relating to installation and maintenance of Wireless Telecom equipment.

  • Ability to deal and interact professionally with customers and stakeholders at all levels of the Company.

  • Knowledge of 2way Radio systems and their communication environment.

  • Ability to read and interpret radio schematic and wiring diagrams, operate electrical test and measurement equipment, and accurately interpret results.

  • Knowledge of IPV4 and IPV6 Routing and switching principles.

  • Knowledge of Linux and window server maintenance and operation.

  • Skilled in engineering/technical theories and principles.

  • Skilled in basic practices of researching technical design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.

  • Skilled in the ability to plan, organize and complete complex projects on schedule.

  • Skilled in the ability to read, interpret, and correct various electric schematics and wiring diagrams.

  • Written and oral communication skills.

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of business applications.

  • Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Advanced degree or professional engineer certification. 

  • Minimum of five (5) years working experience in the communications field. 

  • Cisco certified network associate (CCNA) certificate or similar. 

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Software Suite.

Salary Range:

$77,400.00 - $116,200.00
