JOB SUMMARY:

To provide technical assistance and supportive patient care to meet the needs of individual patients throughout assigned areas and serve as a leader/ mentor for the assigned unit (s).

This position will involve training as a Neurodiagnostic Technologist.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Collects patient orders, reviews the history and any related diagnostic reports.

  • Will assist senior technologist with positioning the patient in bed, placing towel roll under the patients’ neck, and measuring the patient head by 10/20 International method.

  • Securing electrodes to the patient scalp and obtaining low impedances prior to beginning the testing procedure.

  • Will be supervised by lead technologist during the EEG recording

  • Reports any unusual patient behavior or seizure related movements to the senior technologist and documents all observation on the EEG recording

  • Assists with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designee as indicated by the patient’s plan of care.

  • Assists with transferring patient from wheelchair to bed and bed back to wheelchair.

  • Ambulates, positions, and turns patients as needed for the “set up”

  • Provides for patient safety during a seizure event or any neurological related event and condition.

  • Assists with patient restraints and maintains patient-specific safety precautions.

  • Obtains all reports, and documents related to the patient needs/emergencies and unusual patient and family behavior.

  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and health records at all times.

  • Provides and maintains a clean, safe environment, performing proper aseptic technique, isolation procedures, and infection control measures on an as needed basis.

  • Monitors supplies in the EEG patient areas and notifies the senior staff of any shortages with any supply concerns.

  • Participates in daily EEG training and educational activities.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications:

High school or equivalent, one year of hospital experience AND completion of one of the following technical programs:

  • Completion of a recognized Nurse Assistant program OR

  • Completion of Medical Corpsman program OR

  • Completion of EMT program OR

  • Is enrolled in a recognized School of Nursing and has completed the first semester of education which contains clinical concepts and health assessment or the equivalent

  • Has obtained and provided documentation of completion of 2 or more of the following:

  • Emergency Dispatch

  • POCT test site manager

  • Cross-training to HUC duties

  • Patient Care Assistant trainer

  • Perform Unit Audits- 1 per month per unit/ department manager

  • Cast placement

  • Perform/ Assist with High-Level Disinfection

  • Set up of delivery tables

  • Set-up and assistance with minor operating procedures

  • Set-up and assistance with area specific diagnostic procedures

  • Language assistance

  • Burn tub room duties which includes splint applications: mouth spreaders, upper and lower extremities, positioning patients prone, application of pressure wrapping: coban ace wraps, surginet pressure garments, tubigrip/jobst garments, burn dressing preparation and application and assists in application of biobrane/transcyte

  • INQN, IDERAD, PACS system resource/user
