The Licensed Practical Nurse serves as a vocational nurse performing patient care and nursing administrative duties for outpatients in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines at William Beaumont Medical Center.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of diagnostic procedures; set up procedure room and equipment.

  • Provide individualized patient teaching on preventative healthcare and health maintenance.

  • Prepare and administer prescribed medications by oral, sublingual, intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous, topical, dermal, and inhalation routes.

  • Prepare and position patients for examinations and treatments.

  • Participate in in-service and continuing education programs.

  • Establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with co-workers, families, peers, and other health team members.

  • Ensure all equipment is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift.

  • Ensure preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed.

  • Ensure a safe work environment and employee-safe work habits.

  • Provide patients with the utmost care and attention. All patients shall be assured of their privacy and personal dignity.

  • Prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established standards of the MTF, to include, but not limited to, timeliness, accuracy, content, and

  • Only MTF-approved abbreviations shall be used for documentation of patient health records.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma OR certificate of training from a school or program of instruction recognized by the American Nurses Association.

  • Minimum one (1) full year of recent full-time employment as a licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  • Current LPN license in one of the fifty states that is unencumbered.

  • Current BLS card, through the American Heart Association, or ability to obtain prior to start date.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience as a full-time LPN.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word Suite

  • Knowledge of standard nursing care principles, procedures, and practices.

  • Knowledge and skill in cardiopulmonary resuscitation used to initiate resuscitation measures when necessary and assist medical team in providing support measures.

  • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their expected beneficial effects, and potential side Effects.

  • Knowledge of emergency medical procedures.

  • Ability to perform infection control procedures.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
