The EMS Institute EMT Resource functions as an integral member of the EMS outreach and Emergency Department Team to assist in the provision of quality care to patients presenting to the ED. The EMT Resource will work under the direction of the ED leadership and assist with the education, scheduling, and outreach for the ED EMT's and EMS crews. The EMT Resource will also assist the ED educator with ED education. The scope of responsibilities include: Establishing intravenous lines, drawing blood for lab testing, obtain EKG, point of care testing, wound irrigation, splinting and casting of fractures per the direction of the physician, suture removal, hang IV fluids without medications after confirmation by the RN, stocking of rooms in the ED, cleaning exam rooms, data collection related to patient care, administering and assisting with treatments and procedures, communicating patient responses of the care provided to the RN. Under no circumstances may the EMT Resource delegate tasks or supervise other members of the health team. The EMT Resource will assist in the scheduling of EMT and Paramedic students for their rotations through the ED. The EMT Resource will schedule outreach, data tracking and education to outlying facilities and EMS companies in the area. The EMT Resource will assume personal accountability for organizational mission, core, and SHARE values.

Qualifications:

In addition to bringing humankindness to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Emergency Medical Technician required; EMT B, B+, or EMT I certification in the state of employment; NationalCertification preferred; in addition, must be IV certified in the state of employment.

  • Minimum of one year experience as an EMT in the ED

Physical Requirements- Medium Work - exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly.

Shift- 6pm-6:30am
