POSITION OPENING Police Officer The Fredericktown Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. This is a fulltime hourly position that consists of 8 hour shifts and limited on-call responsibilities. The starting pay for this position is $26.67/hour with an increase to $27.99/hour after the first 6 months of employment. Be a US Citizen ? Be at least 21 years of age ? Be a resident of Knox County or an adjacent county within 1 year of date of employment ? Possess a valid Ohio driver's license ? Have a high school diploma or GED and provide a copy of the diploma or certificate with employment application ? Have a valid and current OPOTA peace officer certification, and provide a copy with the employment application ? Be of good moral character ? Never have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or is not currently under indictment for any criminal offense ? Have no current or previous charges of driving under the influence of alcohol in the last 5 years ? Never have been convicted of any family violence offenses ? Obtain certifications required to perform duties of position ? Be able to pass a pre-employment background investigation ? Be able to pass a drug screen ? Demonstrate honesty and integrity by successfully completing a pre-employment CVS or polygraph Page 2 of 3 ? Demonstrate good general medical health as determined by a medical doctor who is licensed by the Ohio State Board of Medical Examiners ? Be declared in satisfactory psychological and emotional health by a psychiatrist who is licensed by the Ohio Board of Examiners of Psychologists ? If served in the armed forces, demonstrate stability, reliability, and integrity by having an honorable discharge ? Be fingerprinted and subjected to a search of local, state, and national databases and fingerprint files Police Officer Description SUMMARY Under limited supervision, the police officer will perform general policing functions intended to ensure the safety and security of the lives and property within the Village. Activities include patrol, traffic enforcement, and investigative duties. Officers may be assigned to special activities of projects on an on-going or short-term basis (e.g., crime prevention investigations, school resource officer, etc.). The work performed involves a considerable risk to personal safety for self and others and requires quick decision making when determining the appropriate action to take in a given situation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ? Enforce all laws and regulations, to provide security, to detect violators, and to develop positive relationships with residents, businesses, schools, and students in assigned neighborhoods. ? Coordinates the services of different governmental and private agencies to resolve identified problems. ? Discourages violations by being visible and present in the community. ? Observes unusual activity; attempts to intervene in situations to prevent violations. ? Issues warnings or citations for violations, both criminal and non-criminal. ?
