Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity in the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) department. We are looking to create a world class EH&S team here at Kite Pharma. You will be working with a highly motivated and cross functional team to create a proactive Safety culture and implement exciting initiatives. The role of the EH&S Manager is to conduct and manage various programs and activities in the EH&S Department. We are looking for a self-starter with exceptional analysis and problem-solving skills ranging from simple to complex situations. This individual is expected to explain information and guide others in order to secure effective implementation of EH&S programs and directives as assigned.

The EH&S Manager will as an agent of change while working effectively. Basic essential duties include:

  • Lead by example and ability to secure resources under challenging circumstances

  • Set goals and leading indicators to demonstrate efficiency and effectiveness of related activities, in addition to providing interpretative guidance regarding exposure monitoring results and recommending appropriate controls

  • Develop, establish and implement SMART goals

  • Align Company goals with department specific while effectively influencing others

  • Set goals and leading indicators to demonstrate efficiency and effectiveness of related activities, in addition to providing interpretative guidance regarding exposure monitoring results and recommending appropriate controls

  • Deliver agreed upon results ahead of schedule by effectively overcome barriers and potential challenges

  • Identify and mitigate hazards

  • Develop, assess, oversee risk assessment program for new and existing processes

  • Develop, enhance Leading and Lagging Indicators

  • Improve and enhance processes and customer service

  • Lead ergonomic program

  • Oversee TCF05’s Environmental Compliance Process

  • Represent EH&S in multiple technical programs or serve as a representative of EH&S team during regulatory visits

  • Manage risk assessment program for new and existing processes

  • Develop and conduct EH&S training as assigned/appropriate

  • Prepare, revise and implement SOPs, Work Instructions, and compliance plans

  • Conduct incident investigations and tracking the completion of associated corrective actions

  • Review engineering projects and provide input

  • Enhance auditing program and conduct site-wide building inspections, including escorting regulatory agency personnel, preparing findings memos and developing and implementing corrective and preventive actions

  • Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders while insuring buy-ins on action plans

  • Manage multiple projects of significant complexity

  • Demonstrate competent negotiation skills when dealing with challenging situations

  • Oversee employee health and wellness initiatives and activities

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with 5+ years of experience in EH&S in a biotech/pharma industry Or

  • Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of experience in EH&S in a biotech/pharma industry Or

  • High School degree with 11+ years of experience in EH&S in biotech/pharma industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. in (Physical and/or Life) science or engineering or Certification such as CSP, CHMM, CIH, CSM

  • Knowledge with OSHA/MOSH, EPA, MDE DOT,,

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience in Biosafety

  • Experience with implementation/follow through of ISO related standards

  • Safety Management

  • Delivering Safety Training

  • Ability to function efficiently and independently in a changing environment

The salary range for this position is: $130,220.00 - $168,520.00. Kite considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
