Role Purpose

​This role of Global Director of Strategic Business Communications is to drive engagement of Mars Veterinary Health Associates through a high impact global strategic business communications strategy and, support the communication of the Mars Petcare 2030 OGSM (objectives, goals, strategies, and measures) and MVH divisional priorities.

The global MVH organization is undergoing a transformational change to deliver on its ambition to be the global industry reference for excellence in medicine and best-in-class care for pets, aiming to accelerate value creation through new capabilities and networks, while also creating a more sustainable profession for people, pets, and the planet.

The Global Director of Strategic Business Communications is responsible for creating, managing, executing, and measuring internal communications to drive business and engagement objectives, best practice sharing, and capability building to engage key stakeholders, all Mars Veterinary Health Associates (working in service of the business units) in the Mars Petcare 2030 OGSM, MVH divisional priorities, Mars Petcare Purpose, and The Five Principles. The role leads organizational announcement communications as well as acquisition communications for Mars Veterinary Health.

The team is looking for an agile and creative addition to the team who is a great thought leader and strategic communicator. The role will report to the Global VP Corporate Affairs and partner closely with MVH business units, Mars Petcare and Mars Incorporated strategic business communications to deliver industry best practice Senior Leader and Associate communications.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.

Global Internal Communications:

  • Lead the development and implementation of internal communications strategies that support the Mars Petcare 2030 OGSM, MVH divisional priorities, Mars Petcare Purpose, and The Five Principles. This means working closely with peers in the business units, and across functions within MVH, the MVH Leadership Team and other leaders across the division.

  • The Associate will be responsible for driving strategic business communications strategies, plans and execution to bring key global priorities relevant to Associates to life.

  • The role will develop global frameworks, evolve channels, and create best practices to solve emerging challenges in global internal communications.

  • Lead integrated communications campaigns and division-wide storytelling opportunities.

  • Lead the cross-business unit MVH IC Monthly Forum.

  • Partner with external communications, sustainability, and public affairs to ensure best-in-class communications and campaigns.

Organizational & Acquisition Communications:

  • Manage the MVH Organizational Announcement process, including stakeholder management throughout the process, continuing to develop best practices and training for the organization and service as an advisor on organizational announcement processes across the business.

  • Serve as point for all global acquisition communications in partnership with the MVH M&A team and business unit CA teams as appropriate.

Strategic business communications/internal communications capability development:

  • Provides strategic counsel and influences the opinion of business leaders across functions to enable the most effective communications plans.

  • Support talent development for the Internal Communications pipeline within Mars Veterinary Health.

  • Provides Internal Communication governance.

Writing, editing, agency and channel management:

  • The Associate will be responsible for creating overarching messaging and presentations in support of strategic business communications and must have excellent writing and solid presentation skills that help motivate and inspire stakeholders and drive decisions/action.

  • The role will also include effective management of multiple communication platforms: Global Town Halls, MVH Monthly News Roundup, Business Updates and Organizational Announcements.

  • The role will also co-manage a communications agency and manage a contractor.

  • Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.

  • Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.

  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.

  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.

  • Environment where pets are present.

Experience, Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline (e.g. Communications, Journalism, Business) is required.

  • Must have 12+ years of experience in developing and executing communications strategies.

  • Experience working in-house in a global organization or with a global brief in an agency is preferred.

  • Be a strategic thinker with ability to provide guidance and input to a variety of stakeholders (Senior Leadership, International, Business Unit partners).

  • Proven self-starter with strong project management/organizational skills and drive for results.

  • Management of agencies/contractors.

  • Experience in matrix organizations and remote work settings.

  • Passion for delivering on A Better World for Pets.

  • Healthcare background (veterinary or human healthcare, pharmaceutical, etc.) is preferred.

Salary: $159,500 – $239,300
