Continental Quality Management R&D Engineer - Passenger & Light Truck Tire in Fort Mill, South Carolina

Continental’s Quality Management Research & Development department (QM R&D) drives the quality and efficiency of the global R&D Tires operations. The QM R&D Engineer is involved in various stages of the tire development and life cycle process and ensures compliance at the Fort Mill, SC Headquarters with local and global R&D procedures. This requires close cooperation with colleagues in the Central R&D organization in Hannover, Germany.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist R&D teams in creating design FMEAs by facilitating meetings and providing detailed knowledge about FMEA procedures. Track and report status of FMEAs performed.

  • Manage R&D related processes and procedures for the Fort Mill, SC office in R&D’s global electronic quality management system PoMS. Provide training as needed.

  • Serve as local Technical Compliance Management representative by assisting local R&D department to meet Continental Tires internal and external compliance requirements.

  • Prepare departments at Fort Mill, SC office for internal and external audits to quality standards IATF 16949 and TISAX as well as internal tCompliance. Coordinate execution of the audits and follow-up on resulting actions, considering requirements of the central QM R&D organization.

  • As local representative for “Product Review” monitor market feedback. Review incoming warranty adjustments in cooperation with Customer Service and identify design related areas for improvement. Track and report progress of action items and quality cases. Coordinate structured problem solving (SPS) activities. Provide R&D specific and relevant adjustment statistics to local tire development team using internal databases.

  • Support Product Development Team by implementing tire lines into serial production if business situation requires.

A candidate for this position must have analytical skill and use a structured approach to problem solving. Good communication skills are important, as the tasks involve interaction with multiple departments and various hierarchical levels. The position will require 10-15% domestic and international travel.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

  • 5+ years of related professional experience

  • Experience in Tire or Continental related work areas (e.g. R&D, Quality, Customer Service)

  • Familiar with Microsoft Office applications
