Summary About the Position: This position is located at the Counter Explosive Hazards Center, 1st Engineer Brigade, U.S. Army Engineer School, Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Fort Leonard Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County, bordering Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a 2-hour drive east and Springfield is a 1-hour drive west of Fort Leonard Wood. Responsibilities Stress occupational safety by ensuring students are aware of potential dangers from working with dogs, landmines and explosives. Ensure correct preparation and handling of explosive training aids to avoid cross contamination. Serve as a point of contact for training MDD teams in landmine and explosive detection. Analyzes training procedures and methods to improve the effectiveness and consistency with Army and International Mine Action Standards (IMAS). Select military working dogs for use within the program. Apply extensive knowledge of animal behavior psychology. Specialized Experience: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes: Trains and instructs material for Explosive (Mine) Detection Dog Teams, both in the classroom and during field training exercises. Developing or reviewing of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; leading and directing work of others and evaluating performance of peers or subordinates. Presents formal training to the Combat Engineer Mine Detection Dog Handler Course. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in Education. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
