Military OneSource is a comprehensive support service provided by the U.S. Department of Defense. It’s designed to offer a wide range of resources and confidential help to service members and their families. This role will be responsible for providing behavioral health/non-medical, short-term, solution focused consultation directly to service and family members. Services are provided virtually (phone, video, chat). Services include brief counseling and consultation, action planning, referral to resources (assuring linkage as appropriate) and follow up as indicated.

The operating hours will be 8:00am to 12:00am, seven days a week. All employees will be required to work at least one weekend day, once per month.

If you are licensed in Florida, you will have the flexibility to work remotely* as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide appropriate type of service based on member’s presentation, clinical history and needs and accurately differentiate between NMC and Military medical services

  • Formulate accurate description of member’s clinical presentation in their individual clinical records and maintaining appropriate records, case notes, forms and reports as well as database entries

  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality according to DoD standards

  • Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol

  • Participate in staff meetings, case consultations, and training opportunities

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in psychology, social work, marriage/family therapy or counseling or related mental health field

  • Current, valid, unrestricted counseling license/certification in the state of Florida, which that grants the authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner in their respective fields, such as LP, LMFT, LICSW, LPC, LCSW, LPCC, LPC

  • 2+ years of experience, post-licensure, that demonstrates acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a social work, psychology, marriage/family therapy, or counseling major

  • Experience using various computer applications and move through computer screens while talking with members

  • Proven ability to build rapport, assess and address risk, and develop goals with service members and their families in a telephonic, video or digital modality

  • Proven ability to work with a culturally and geographically diverse population

  • Proven ability to address a variety of problems and issues as presented by callers

  • Proven ability to work flexibly and creatively with other professional team members

  • Proven solid written, verbal and interpersonal skills

  • Access to high-speed internet from home

  • Dedicated, distraction-free space in home for home office

  • Speak fluent English and Spanish

  • Proven ability to work at least one weekend day/night, once per month

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Veteran/military retiree, wounded warrior, and/or military spouse

  • Experience working with and/or for military communities

  • Employee assistance program (EAP) experience

Please note, this contract requires the following:

  • For assignments in the 50 states, counselors shall be licensed or certified in the state in which the client is receiving services.Multi state licensure preferred

  • Must meet the security requirements identified in Section 5.7 bullet a

  • All non-medical counseling network providers shall be licensed, certified, and properly credentialed to perform this requirement and be compliant with the commercial industry accepted standards for the performance of EAP programs and non-medical counseling program guidance and scope requirements

  • Must display knowledge and understanding of the military lifestyle and culture

  • Counselors shall adhere to commercial and professional standards of practice set forth by Federal, state, and local laws, as well as relevant DoD/Military Branch of Service and Component policies (Attachments 25, Reference 38)

  • Credentialing must be completed for all Military OneSource non-medical counselors, who MUST BE licensed in the State or territory (excluding Guam) in which the participant is receiving the services. If the participant is receiving telephonic or online counseling while located OCONUS (excluding Alaska, Hawaii and US territories), the Military OneSource counselor may be licensed in any state

  • Non-medical counselors are mandated reporters of situations that include harm to self or others, domestic violence, child abuse or neglect, violence against any person, and any present or future illegal activity

  • Non-medical counseling provides support for common military-related stressors to prevent the development or exacerbation of mental health conditions that may detract from military and family readiness

  • Demonstrated counseling competence preceding their agreement to perform under the Military OneSource contract. Page 111. The hourly range for this role is $28.61 to $56.06 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
