Summary About the Position: Serves as a Site Director for Ft. Huachuca Language Training Detachment (LTD), at Sierra Vista, AZ, under LREC Operational Programs, Continuing Education (CE) Directorate, Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). Responsibilities Supervises all assigned faculty and staff. Provides organizational and academic leadership to Language Training Detachment (LTD). Provides operational and logistic support to Language Training Detachment (LTD). Serves as a liaison between the host, higher installation, and Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). Manages Intermediate and Advanced instructional programs and curriculum. Maintains first-hand knowledge of students’ needs. Mentors’ instructors for instructional and curriculum improvement. Observes classroom instruction and provides feedback. Overseas all projects and tasks related to the establishment and successful functioning of the LTD. The initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 36 months, and may be extended upon mission, funding, and management discretion. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Basic Requirement: Bachelor's degree in one of the following: Educational Leadership, Second Language Acquisition, Foreign Language Education, Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language (TESOL/TEFL), Linguistics, Language (English included), Literature, Educational/Instructional technology, Cross-Cultural Studies, Intercultural Communication and Translation & Interpretation. TWO (2) YEARS SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE, WHICH IS DEFINED AS: relevant professional expertise or experience in two or more of the five following core areas that demonstrates significant contributions to an adult foreign language educational program. - foreign language teaching - foreign language curriculum development - foreign language faculty development - foreign language testing - foreign language program management LANGUAGE EVALUATION: The minimum English proficiency is a Level 2 in speaking. The proficiency levels are defined by the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level descriptions and can be viewed at http://www.govtilr.org. Failure of any portion of the language tests will disqualify applicants for a period of 6 months. Applicants may re-apply after 6 months. Upon subsequent selection, retesting is allowed only once. You must submit a 300-word HANDWRITTEN essay in English. Essay topic is how your background, education and training has prepared you to be in the field of foreign language education or leadership. NOTE: Typed essays are NOT acceptable. The essay is not used to evaluate work experience, only for the purpose of evaluating the language writing proficiency. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Curriculum Development Education Consultation, Coaching and Collaboration Educational and Training Technology Instructional Delivery and Learner Development Instructional Design Leadership Learning and Program Evaluation Education Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements.
