Job Summary

To provide social skills instruction, develop/facilitate behavioral management plans and implement crisis intervention services for special education population.

Essential Functions

  • Respond immediately to crisis situations and implement de-escalation and crisis intervention methods as trained by the Fort Dodge Community School District.
  • Work with Special Education teachers in an effort to assure ongoing assessment of social/emotional/behavioral strengths/weaknesses.
  • Develop and implement social skills curriculum.
  • Gather data in an effort to monitor students behavioral progress as dictated by the identified students Individual Education Plan and Behavior Intervention Plan.
  • Provide technical expertise to regular and special education personnel regarding behaviorally challenging students.
  • Encourage the families of the identified student to be involved in their students education and process.
  • Participate in staffing and problem solving meetings upon request.
  • Model and coach school personnel on effective management and de-escalation techniques.
  • Complete individual logs and reports in a timely manner.
  • Attend work on a reliable and consistent basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equialent required, AA preferred.
  • Two years of successful work experience in a position in education, social work, counseling, human services, or a related field.
  • Prefer experience providing services directly to students identified as having special needs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of effective strategies to meet the needs of students with challenging behaviors.
