Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Transportation Services mission is to manage the University’s entire fleet of vehicles and trailers, providing the highest quality service and transportation to Colorado State University and other State customers to help fulfill their goals and objectives. Providing a wide variety of fleet management services, including vehicle maintenance and repair, bus services, daily rentals, auto liability insurance premium allocation, comprehensive and collision funding, and vehicle accident investigation and repairs.

Position Summary

This position was created to assist students in accessing the University Center for the Arts ( UCA ) from the main Colorado State University campus in a timely and efficient manner allowing for more students to participate in courses and programs at the UCA during the academic year during business hours. The position will utilize on demand software to create a pick up/drop off schedule daily to identify order of requests to maximize the number of participants during transport, while maintaining participants schedule needs. Services of this vehicle will be available if a student with a permanent or temporary disability which doesn’t require the resources of the Mobility Shuttle ADA equipped van. When not driving, position will complete administrative duties as designated by leadership, to include, not limited to, documentation of van usage per trip on a weekly basis as well as assisting the department with ancillary tasks as outlined in the job duties. CPR and First Aid Training will be provided.

Primary duties include:

  • Operate two axle full size van.

  • Utilize on demand reservation software to create route to pick up and drop off maximum number of students.

  • Provide safe, reliable, and courteous means of transportation to main campus destinations.

  • Wear the provided uniform shirt and jacket during operation hours.

  • Maintain CPR and First Aid certification yearly. Recertification will be paid for by the department.

  • Maintain documentation tracking of number of riders and destinations on weekly basis. Other documentation as required by leadership.

Departmental duties include:

  • Assisting Transportation Services office with variety of administrative tasks to support day to day operations. To include but not limited to, filing department billing records, assist in maintaining other operational files for office, other office support to be determined.

  • Cross train in Reservation Desk duties and in Student Service Advisor position duties to assist in when necessary.

Assisting Maintenance Services with tasks such as obtaining emissions tests on vehicles, transporting parts from vendor to maintenance facilities, shuttling vehicles to and from satellite repair facilities other duties as needed to support maintenance services.

Required Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Must pass a full background check including MVR for driving record.

  • Must have a current, valid US driver’s license or the ability to obtain one by employment start date.

  • Minimum one year administrative office work experience.

  • Minimum two years customer service experience.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with interactive computer programs and/or systems

  • Experience transporting passengers

  • CPR /First Aid certification desirable

  • Experience performing minor maintenance on vehicles such as changing wipers, light bulbs, etc.

  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office suite programs especially Outlook, Teams, and Excel.

  • Demonstrated experience providing customer service to passengers

  • Ability to shift priorities dependent on importance of current tasks

  • Safely and professionally operate full size van.

  • Ensure the safe loading of customers and belongings.

  • Provide transportation services to specific destinations on the main Colorado State University campus adhering to the safest most efficient routes.

  • Transport vehicles needing maintenance to off campus vendors and picking them up once repairs are completed.

  • Picking up parts at vendor and delivering either to main Transportation Services shop or to Bus shop. Shuttle parts delivered to Transportation Services office to Bus shop as needed.

  • Transport vehicles to emissions testing site and obtain completed emissions test for vehicle.

  • Assist in reorganization of Transportation Services parking lot to categorize vehicles in appropriate spaces.

  • Perform minor vehicle maintenance tasks, such as changing wiper blades and replacing light bulbs, on shuttle vehicle or other Transportation Services vehicles as necessary.

  • Strictly adhere to all traffic laws and regulations in the United States, the state of Colorado, and Colorado State University.

  • Develop a comprehensive route and schedule utilizing on demand software based on advance requests and on demand transportation requests.

  • Maintain a daily trip log, documenting completed trips, cancellations, or changes to base schedule, to facilitate data collection for the program. Copy of daily schedule to be saved each day to facilitate tracking of schedule changes.

  • Record all interactions with participants or potential participants in the communication log to facilitate tracking participants needs.

  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the van and promptly report any mechanical issues following established procedures.
