Description of Work Unit

Counseling Services

Counseling Services at the CSU Health Network provides clinical services, outreach and consultation and training services. Our professional staff includes licensed psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed professional counselors, as well as graduate student staff from each of these disciplines. Our staff provides high quality mental health and substance use services that are easily accessible and support student success. We are dedicated to affirming respect, compassion, and acceptance for all, and we celebrate diversity with regard to all backgrounds and identities. Counseling Services supports the education and prevention mission of the CSU Health Network through presentations and training on mental health topics. Through outreach and consultation, we create collaborative relationships with offices serving students typically underrepresented in higher education and mental health services. Our training program provides post degree fellowship, internship, and practicum training to graduate students in psychology, social work, counseling, and student affairs. We recognize the importance of quality supervision and training in the education of future mental health professionals. Position Summary

The Counselor in Residence ( CIR ) Supervisor leads a team of on-call counselors living within CSU University Housing. The purpose of this team is to provide on-call mental health consultation to staff and emergency support for students. The CIR Supervisor will supervise and coordinate a team of clinicians who support the CSU University Housing Team.

The CIR Supervisor will be provided with a two bedroom apartment on the CSU campus. CSU Housing & Dining Services ( HDS ) will determine the location of the apartment. The CIR Supervisor will not be charged for the cost of rent, electricity, water/sewage, trash/recycling, or internet connectivity in the assigned apartment. If the CIR Supervisor owns a vehicle, they will be responsible for the cost of a permit to park on campus.

The CIR Supervisor reports to the Assistant Director of Training & Group Services.

Required Job Qualifications

Training, Education, and Licensure

  • Applicable mental health license ( LPC , LCSW , LMFT , Licensed Psychologist) acquired in Colorado, or has completed all state licensing requirements, with the ability to obtain licensure within three months of employment

Preferred Job Qualifications

Experience

  • Experience providing mental health counseling to individuals

  • Experience providing clinical services at a college/university counseling center

  • Experience facilitating therapy groups

  • Experience providing outreach and consultation

  • Experience providing crisis and triage screening

  • Provide counseling, consultation, and support to residents and HDS staff during emergency and crisis situations that occur after business hours and on weekends and holidays during the Fall and Spring semesters

  • Establish and maintain high visibility in residential community (e.g., attend hall staff orientation, resident orientation, special events, etc.) to facilitate referrals, consultations, and counseling contacts

  • Provide occasional consultation services to professional and graduate residential staff regarding communication with residents, group dynamics, and other topics as requested

  • Facilitate the referral of residential students to the CSU Health Network for ongoing counseling

  • Provide on-call screening/triage services within a University Residence Life setting after business hours

  • Respond to campus crises

  • Provide outreach, liaison, and consultation services consistent with the missions of Counseling Services & Residence Life

  • Provide supervision of assigned trainees in accordance with training policies and procedures

  • Other responsibilities as assigned

  • During fall and spring training, and once per semester in the fall and spring semesters, meet with each of the residential staff groups in the assigned region of campus to establish and maintain effective working relationships

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of supportive interactions provided to residents and housing staff

  • Submit requested reports to CSU Health Network and/or HDS Leadership

  • Write annual summary of program development and clinical services provided

  • Develop and facilitate training for HDS staff at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters (Topics may include communication, crisis intervention, and team building)

  • Attend one staff meeting per semester in an assigned region of campus to discuss the mental health needs of the community and respond to questions and ideas from residential staff

  • Maintain occasional availability for professional and graduate live-in staff to consult on matters pertaining to mental health in the community

  • During the fall and spring semesters, hold drop-in hours or provide clinical support based on agency need and availability

  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving diverse populations and underrepresented students

  • Attend staff meetings

  • Serve on internal and external committees

  • Follow agency policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, and HIPAA
