Summary About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. You may need to complete a 3 year probationary period, if applicable. This position is with 7th SIG CMD (T) 21st SIG BDE 302nd SIG BN, located at Fort Belvoir, Virginia Responsibilities Maintain quality and continuity of communication by taking appropriate action to prevent and correct conditions adversely affecting communications circuits/systems/networks within the ETC Fort Belvoir. Perform operations tests on circuits to ensure high quality and maximum efficiency and establish and disestablish circuits to meet operational needs. Determine overall circuit conditions and ensure necessary corrective action is taken immediately on any circuit, system, or network found to be out of specification. Analyze, isolate, and identify problems in various types of complex interactive communication systems such as digital data, computer-to-terminal, and digitized video systems. Ensure all housed Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) circuits, systems, and networks are up and operational. Operate many different types of cryptographic equipment and is responsible for strict adherence to all proper security measures and procedures. Serve as liaison between the shift leader and assigned personnel of the shift, as assistant team leader; ensures the team is kept abreast of all operational Requirements. Maintain complete knowledge regarding all operational facets of the shift. Ensure precise reporting of system outages and failures to higher headquarters by employing automated record-keeping through Facility Circuit Information Tracking, REMEDY ITSM software, SharePoint database, and other database systems. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe one year specialized experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience would be demonstrated by maintaining automated record keeping to ensure precise reporting of system failures and outages; conducting testing and reviewing results on weekly back up equipment testing; providing electronic maintenance, operation, and other duties related to sustaining the around-the-clock availability of telecommunications systems; assisting shift leader in tracking current training status and identifying training shortcomings. OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other fields related to the position to be filled. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
