Orbex Space Welder/Fabricator in Forres, United Kingdom

Orbex is seeking a skilled Welder/Fabricator to join our team in Forres. The ideal candidate will possess TIG & MIG welding expertise and exhibit strong attention to detail. While prior experience with pressure vessels or boilers is advantageous, it is not essential.  

 

In the role you would spend 60% of your time on welding and fabrication activities, the other 40% of your time will be site management, engaging with suppliers and other related activities.

Based in Copenhagen, you will be right in the heart of this fast-paced cutting-edge company, using your skills to build a new launch vehicle for a buoyant commercial market.

The Position  

Responsibilities of the role   

  • Perform fabrication, pipe bending, welding, pipe fitting, manual handling, and housekeeping tasks according to established procedures. 

  • Document and report dimension control, traceability, and quality standards to ensure compliance with industry regulations and company protocols. 

  • Determine job requirements and plan/configure equipment and materials for optimal efficiency and safety. 

  • Conduct installations, inspections, diagnose problems/faults/leaks, perform testing, and execute repairs and maintenance on various pipe systems. 

  • Identify hazards, defects, and compliance issues, and take appropriate actions to address them in accordance with agreed codes, laws, and health and safety regulations. 

  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment to ensure targets are met, and contribute to the overall success of the team. 

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Proven experience in welding and related tasks, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting including MIG/TIG stainless steel welding 

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose issues accurately. 

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. 

     

Desirable experience and traits:  

  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices is advantageous. 

  • Experience of Pressure vessels, highly pressurized products or aerospace/space grade welding is desirable.

Location – Forres (Kinloss)  

Our roles need to be on-site in Scotland due to the nature of the position, export controls and security. This role is based in Forres at Orbex’s headquarters but will spend significant time at our test site RAF Kinloss and will require working outdoors.  

Orbex Forres is located at the foot of the Scottish Highlands, near Inverness. It's close to the spectacular coastline, wild beaches, and amazing wildlife of the Moray Firth, as well as being a short distance from the world-famous Loch Ness, and Aviemore ski resort.

Security  

You must be a UK or European citizen or from a country that is a signatory to the MTCR convention. You may be required to undergo a UK BPSS check which includes a criminal record check.
