Summary You will serve as a SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT) in the MRO Production Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER WEST DET FALLON. Responsibilities You will remove fixed sheet metal and composite structures from aircraft, disassemble structural and non-structural metal and composite components. You will construct, assemble and install irregular items/systems. : You will work from technical drawings, directives, manuals, and other written or verbal instructions and assist equivalent and lower-graded level employees. You will assess damaged parts to determine the sequence of operations necessary to affect repairs or replacements. You will use hand or machine tools methods as appropriate to make replacement parts for aircraft structures and skin sections. You will accomplish other duties as assigned. You will be required to have regular and predictable attendance, which is an essential function of this position. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION while performing the following tasks: (1) Coordinating complex and advanced metal repair, fabrication, planning, laying out, designing, assembling/dissembling of aircraft and aircraft components; (2) Constructing, assembling and installing irregular items/systems; (3) Applying knowledge of all techniques used to assemble metal systems, and ability to recognize size bolts, screws, rivets, and all fasteners associated with aircraft trade; (4) Utilizing wide variety of complicated hand and power tools as well as precision measuring instruments and working to tolerances as close as .003 of an inch; (5) Reading and interpreting complex blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics of item to be repaired; (6) Devising complex templates/patterns into shapes (e.g. rectangular, cylindrical, tapered, etc.); (7) Employing developmental processes such geometry, radial, parallel lines, trigonometry, and other shop mathematics to design parts.
