Description

The Director of Academics manages the day-to-day academic operations for the GMC-Fairburn location, including but not limited to faculty hiring, credentialing, and evaluation; adjudicating faculty grievances/issues and student petitions/complaints; and overseeing Department Chairs and Faculty. This position also provides day to day management and oversight of the GMC-Fairburn Tutoring Center.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages the day-to-day academic operations for GMC Fairburn including but not limited to providing guidance for academic strategy; hiring and credentialing of faculty; problem-solving students’ academic issues and addressing student complaints; and ensuring compliance with all academic and faculty-related policies as outlined in institutional policy documents.

  • Collaborates with Department Chairs to establish the annual course schedule and collaborates with the Campus Director to meet key performance metrics for enrollment and space utilization. Coordinates with Departments Chairs to determine textbook and other course material needs.

  • Provides day to day management of the GMC-Fairburn Tutoring Center : including the hiring, scheduling, and time approval of part-time tutors. Under the leadership of the Vice President Junior College Academics, the Director of Academics will align student support needs with tutoring center resources.

  • Serves as the point of contact for Faculty Grievances/Issue/Disciplinary Measures. Conducts annual performance evaluation of Department Chairs, oversees administration of the Faculty Evaluation System, supports Department Chairs in the creation of Faculty professional development plans.

  • Supports SACSCOC compliance of Principles of Accreditation and substantive change when necessary. Monitors SACSCOC compliance for Dual Enrollment off-campus instructional sites.

  • Attends campus, and institutional events, assists in planning and execution of Campus Graduation, and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum required:

  • Master’s degree in an academic discipline

  • 3 years of full-time higher education teaching experience.

  • Familiarity withaccreditation standards. Demonstrated knowledge of commonly accepted policies and procedures in academia. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills; Attention to detail.

Preferred:

  • Doctorate or equivalent (PhD, EdD, DPA, JD) in an academic discipline

  • 4+ years of full-time higher education teaching experience and higher education administration experience in an Academic Affairs/Operations setting.

  • Familiarity withaccreditation standards and the SACSCOC accreditation process. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
