McEwen Mining Security Supervisor in Eureka, Nevada

The Gold Bar Mine is located 35 miles northwest of Eureka, Nevada. The property has seen historic mining from 1988 to 1994 by Atlas Precious Metals Inc. McEwen Mining Inc. acquired the property and began active exploration in 2011. The McEwen Gold Bar Mine consists of an open pit mining operation delivering ore to a crushed heap leach with solution being processed through an ADR plant and refinery.

Job Description

To ensure the security of employees, contractors, vendors, visitors, and assets and ensure that no disruption to operations occurs due to security-related incidents. The Security Supervisor drives and reports on security-related compliance to policies, procedures and MSHA standards

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead the team towards achieving set targets and goals

  • Develop and communicate clear performance expectations and measures for the team

  • Provide guidance, coaching, and feedback to direct reports

  • Develop staff, ensure that all required training is carried out as per identified skills requirements

    Operational / Technical Execution

  • Develop, implement, and monitor work and activity schedules for the Security team

  • Execute security duties across the site and in designated areas

  • Conduct on site security audits - internal and external

  • Carry out security duty for Refinery and pouring

  • Control access to vault on day of pouring + security to hand over

  • Review and present daily security reports to the EHS Manager

  • Monitor radios and CCTV cameras as required

  • Provide surveillance to ensure that no unauthorized personnel gains entry to site

  • Report all suspicious activity

  • Complete Pre-Op and Post Op inspections as required

  • Complete required documentation for personnel arriving on site

  • Organize badging and temporary entry administration for vendors, suppliers, and others

  • Build and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships

    Administration and Controls

  • Participate in daily staff meetings and weekly safety meetings

  • Complete day-to-day administration and reporting as required

    HSE compliance

  • Maintain full responsibility for complying to all HSE and regulatory aspects relating to activities carried out in line with the requirements of this position

  • Adhere to safety-related best practices and SOPs

  • Ensure that the team adheres to safety-related practices and procedures

    Cross Functional Relationships

  • All departments: compliance, investigations, audits

  • Vendors and Suppliers: badging and entry procedures and administration

    Discretionary Work (NON-CORE)

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks and raise health and safety awareness.

  • Identify opportunities for improvement across the department

  • Carry out other non-core duties as requested by the HS Manager, commensurate with skills, knowledge, and appropriate level of work complexity

    Qualifications and Requirements

    Qualification and Experience

  • Demonstrate good understanding of key security and safety principles in the mining industry

  • At least 3 years of experience, preferably in the mining industry

  • Demonstrated supervisory and coaching capability

    Knowledge Required

  • Sound understanding of MSHA

  • Understand key security and safety principles in the mining industry

  • Knowledge of conducting investigations and gathering and maintaining security-related information and data

  • Knowledge of company policy and procedures

  • Knowledge of HSEQ standards and requirements relevant to this area of work

  • Advanced level knowledge of security-related computer programmes and systems

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

    Legal Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License

    Physical Demands

  • Work 10 to 12-hour shift days/nights/weekends/holidays (may need to fill in for vacations)

  • Climbing ladders/stairs, long periods of standing, walking over uneven ground

  • Moderate to Heavy repetitive lifting to 50 lbs.

  • Repetitive motion - bending, stooping, kneeling

  • PPE required, respirator must be worn to perform specific tasks

  • Exposure to noise and dust

  • Prolonged exposure to weather conditions (hot, cold, windy, dusty)
