Mine and Technical Services Manager

The Gold Bar Mine is located 35 miles northwest of Eureka, Nevada. The property has seen historic mining from 1988 to 1994 by Atlas Precious Metals Inc. McEwen Mining Inc. acquired the property and began active exploration in 2011. The McEwen Gold Bar Mine consists of an open pit mining operation delivering ore to a crushed heap leach with solution being processed through an ADR plant and refinery.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILIES

CORE PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

To provide overarching leadership, technical guidance, and evaluation to long-range mine planning as well as ore control modelling, planning and geological activities to ensure that production goals are met safely and sustainably.

The Mine and Technical Services Manager is also responsible for managing Contractor activities to ensure that targets and plans are met.

1 PEOPLE

• Lead the team towards achieving set targets and goals

• Develop and communicate clear roles and responsibilities for all positions on the org structure of the Department

• Develop and communicate clear performance expectations and measures for the team

• Provide guidance, coaching, and feedback to direct reports

• Develop staff, ensure that all required training is carried out as per identified skills requirements

• Team understands all KPIs Frequent coaching takes place

• Skills Matrix updated annually

2 ASSET OPTIMIZATION

Operational Planning

• Provide input into the development of the Life of Mine Plan, reviewing quarterly and annually

• Develop, communicate, and update the block model, reviewing quarterly and annually

• Develop and communicate a resource model to replace depletion

• Provide input into the annual budget, drive adherence to budget

Operational / Technical Execution

Contractor Management

• Build and maintain a sound ongoing relationship with the Contractor

• Supply SMC to Contractor

• Supply information and controls to Contractor including plans and schedules

• Conduct a weekly operational review meeting with the Contractor

• Monitor and report on Contractor progress

• Conduct weekly review and verification of Contractor invoices

Ore Control

• Oversee the work of the Geology section and provide technical guidance and evaluation of planning and modelling activities

• Build and maintain a well-functioning Ore Control team across Mine Engineering and Geology, ensuring that processes and systems are well synchronised and that communication flows freely between the team

• Design, communicate, and drive the implementation of mine plans and ore control procedures in consultation with the Ore Control Team

• Review and report on QA and QC protocols

• Oversee the reconciliation of resource modelling, estimation, and reporting

• Ensure that sound cross-functional relationships are in place between Geology and Exploration teams

Mine Technical Services

• Oversee the work of the Mine Engineering section and provide technical guidance and evaluation of planning activities

• Monitor and report on the execution of mid- and long-range plans, including action plans to deal with variances

• Control and monitor mine budget based on reporting from Financial Manager

• Ensure that sound cross-functional relationships are in place between the Mine Engineering and Process Operations teams

Administration and Controls

• Report to the EHS Department on the following:

  • High wall safety compliance

  • Disturbance reports

    • Conduct and/or take part in daily staff and management meetings and weekly safety meetings

    • Carry out routine administration and reporting

    • Block model is in place and reviewed

    • Resource model is in place and reviewed

    • Optimised grade control

    • Dilution targets are met

    • Pit control management and controls are in place

    • Contractor management and controls are in place

    • Accurate data is provided on time

    • Reports meet deadline

    3 HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT

    • Actively support Health, Safety and Environmental Management systems and regulatory compliance

    • Communicate and adhere to safety-related best practices

    • Ensure that the team adheres to safety-related practices and procedures

    • Adhere to Industrial Hygiene and Environmental requirements and produce accurate documentation and reporting

    • Full regulatory compliance

    • Compliance to safety, health, and environment-related best practices

    CROSS FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

    • Process Operations: ore control, execution of plans

    • HSE Coordinators : HSE related events, audits, and inspections

    • Exploration team : resource and grade control block models, geological maps

    • QA/QC: protocols, reports, data

    DISCRETIONARY WORK (NON-CORE)

    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks and raise health and safety awareness

    • Identify operational opportunities for growth and development

    DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY:

    • Staffing: in consultation with HR Manager, authority to hire appropriate staff to ensure skills and capability for the Mine and Tech Services Department

    JOB AND PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Degree in Mine Engineering PLUS Professional Engineering Certification

    • 12 - 15 years of experience in a mining or similar operational environment is preferred

    • Evidence of strong leadership and coaching skills

    STATUTORY/LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Valid driver’s licence

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Climbing ladders/stairs, walking over uneven ground

    • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 lbs

    • Bend, stoop kneel, and stand for long periods of time

    • PPE required

    • Travel to field sites, remote sites, and corporate offices from time to time

    KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

    • Technical and operational skills relevant to this position, including mine planning, ore control and related functions

    • Understand workflow and mill circuit

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer systems relating to this position and level of work

    • Knowledge of HSEQ standards and requirements relevant to this area of work
