GAF Mechanical Technician III in Ennis, Texas

Summary:

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanical Technician position is a technical role supporting production in the Manufacturing Maintenance Department. The Mechanical Technician will have both technical and leadership responsibilities. The Mechanic Technician primary duties are to perform all tasks in a safe manner per Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) direction for site policies and OSHA standards. The ideal candidate will have established advanced troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve daily machine issues as well as support medium and long-term expense and capital development projects. This position will also be subject to On-Call duty as needed on a rotational schedule.

Essential Duties:

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoot daily machine issues.

  • Support medium and long-term expense and capital development projects.

  • Have general mechanical expertise.

  • Assist with defining priorities in area of responsibility, so that team supervision can define daily priorities and direction for the group.

  • This individual will interact with the production and maintenance teams to enhance the day-to-day operations of the plant. As part of this they will be expected to occasionally interact with management.

Physical Demands:

  • Able to lift and handle up to 50 pounds.

  • Able to climb and work at elevated heights.

  • Able to work around the chemicals and environment present in both the Shingle and Nonwoven Plants.

Under This Roof, We Require:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Minimum of three years related experience in the manufacturing industry.

  • Computer skills and the ability to learn new programs such as Maximo CMMS.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate written and verbally.

  • Utilities: Possess operating knowledge in the plant to include water, oil, natural gas, compressed air, and fire protection systems.

  • Tools: Possess good working knowledge of mechanical tools, hand, battery operated, and electric driven and safely use the correct tool for each job.

  • Safety: Is aware of safety hazards existing in an industrial facility and always practices safe work habits and maintains a clean work area.

  • Interact with peers, supervisors and managers in a cooperative and team oriented manner.

  • Ensures that housekeeping is maintained and enhanced during the performance of all tasks.

  • Ensures that a safe work environment is maintained and enhanced during the performance.

  • Performs millwright work such as aligning a pump and motor with dial indicator or laser system, install sheaves, belts, align equipment, check for squareness and belt tension. Install bearings and be able to perform all maintenance work required on bearings.
