The Stocks and Markets Editor will be responsible for identifying stocks as they move, stock stories as they happen, producing earnings hits, keeping track of daily stock moves, producing shorts hits detailing moves and communicating with the control room and show teams to get them on TV.  The person in this position is also responsible for sending daily updates to producers tracking stock moves and for daily scripted hits and our Sectornomics franchise.

The position requires knowledge of FactSet and other stock tracking software, iNews and CNBC’s charting and lower third systems.  Training is provided.

What you’ll do:

  • Working both independently and with reporters/anchors to produce original business news content, primarily for broadcast and additionally for digital and social.

  • Production responsibilities may include research, conducting interviews, writing and editing and overseeing editing.

  • Pitching new and developing stock story ideas and working on specific assigned stock stories.

  • Working closely with and partnering with anchors, producers and reporters on earnings coverage.

  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with, and being knowledgeable of and current on companies in the universe of coverage.

  • Communicating clearly with reporter and production crews to determine best coverage plan and live remote locations.

  • Communicating with CNBC News desk editors on available live times, understanding and owning all live hit requests, disseminating hit times to reporters, producers and anchors.

  • Creating compelling graphics for each story.

  • Alerting reporter to any time changes or timing issues with hit.

  • Planning and contributing to digital and social coverage.

  • Keeping up-to-date on coverage, flagging upcoming events in designated sectors to CNBC editorial planning team.

What you’ll bring:

  • At least 2 years in business news, or a related field where you have obtained knowledge of stocks and the overall stock market.

  • Leadership qualities.

  • A proven track record of learning and implementing new television related technologies.

Desired Characteristics :

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments, while working with multiple reporters and editors on the broadcast and digital teams.

  • Experience with FactSet or other stock tracking software.

  • An interest in the stock market.
