Director of Community Mental Health Services

<p>The successful candidate must exhibit comprehensive knowledge of the modern theory and practice of psychiatry; a thorough knowledge of basic psychiatric sciences, addiction treatment, community psychiatry, medical and social psychology, psychopathology, psychotherapy and the function and pertinent pathology of the nervous system; the ability to develop, organize and supervise the short-range and long-range plans for the provisions of mental health, substance abuse services in a specific geographic area; the ability to plan, organize and supervise services designed to prevent psychiatric disabilities and to promote care, treatment and training appropriate for this purpose; a knowledge of current administrative practices in the community mental hygiene field.

<p>Responsibilities <li> Directs community mental health, substance use and intellectual and developmental disability services, including the in-patient units in general hospitals; <li>Directs treatment of patients receiving services in any or all three disability groups; <li>Plans, organizes and supervises psychiatric rehabilitation services; <li>Coordinates mental health services with other authorized public health agencies and groups; <li>Manages contracts for agencies receiving federal, state and/or local funding necessary for the operations of mental health, substance use as well as intellectual and developmental disability services <li>Interprets activities to the community in promoting maximum use of mental health, substance use and intellectual and developmental disability services as well as overseeing public relations regarding programs; <li>Prepares an annual report of the programs under his direction, including a fiscal accounting; <li>Conducts studies related to the promotion of improved mental hygiene; <li>May, on appointment of the NYS Commissioner(s) of Mental Health, Addiction Services and Supports or Office for People with Developmental Disabilities serve as a member of a regional and/or state-wide advisory committee; <li>Participates in regional and state-wide meetings of the Conference of Mental Hygiene Directors; <li>Works with and consults with the Community Service Board in regard to their statutory duties; <p>Qualifications <li>A) Possession of a license to practice medicine in the State of New York and three (3) years of formal or supervised training in an in-patient or out-patient, in any or all three disability groups plus two (2) additional years of clinical or administrative experience. Two (2) years of the five (5) years of experience must have been in a supervisory or clinical administrative capacity in a community mental health, substance use or intellectual and developmental disability program; or <li>B) New York State certification as a Psychologist and a Doctorate in Psychology conferred by a university recognized by the New York State Education Department and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience working in programs for the mentally ill, substance use disorder and/or intellectual and developmental disabled. Two (2) years of the five (5) years of experience must have been in an administrative capacity; or <li>C) Certification by the New York State Department of Education with a Master's degree in rehabilitation, counseling, psychology, social work, psychiatric mental health nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse or other equivalent degrees as determined by a curriculum reviewed approved by NYSED and at least seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience working in programs for the mentally ill, substance use disorder and/or intellectual and developmental disabled. Two (2) years of the seven (7) years of experience must have been in an administrative capacity.

Pay: From $92,114.00 per year
