Job Summary Central Washington University is recruiting a Secretary Senior to join our World Language and Philosophy teams in Ellensburg, Washington. This role will provide support for our Departments of World Languages & Cultures as well as Philosophy & Comparative Religion and is an important member of our team as they enhance the vision of the University. In addition to our upper-division courses in Western and Eastern philosophies, we offer many general education courses. We have seven faculty members: four full professors and three full-time non-tenure-track faculty. Faculty are heavily involved in interdisciplinary programs and other groups on campus such as Faculty Senate and United Faculty of Central (the faculty union). We are also prolific scholars. The department organizes many campus and community events. We are home to the CWU EthicsLab, which puts on regular public programming. We have a department colloquium every quarter, and we have an active Philosophy & Comparative Religion Club. Among other things, the next secretary will be heavily involved in advertising our events, recruiting students into our programs, and generally raising the profile of the department on campus and in the community. The Department of World Languages and Cultures is a multi-disciplinary department that is home to five major programs, one stand-alone minor program, and two certificate programs. WLC Majors include Deaf and Sign Language Studies; Japanese; French Studies; Russian Studies; and Spanish and Heritage Spanish. We offer language and culture courses in Chinese, German, and Korean; and certificates in Global Cultural Training and Spanish Translation and Interpretation. World Languages and Cultures offers a wide range of language and culture courses, with emphasis on accessibility of world language education, cultural competencies for the globalized world, and equitable, anti-racist approaches in the classroom and beyond. World Languages and Cultures is a vibrant department with fourteen multilingual faculty members.
