About you and this role

Shares responsibility for the implementation of the EH&S management system, in order to meet business objectives and to maintain the license to operate. Provides hands-on environmental, industrial hygiene (IH), and health and safety (H&S) activities for a specific plant. Requires broadened technical skills in analytical/scientific methods or operational processes to perform a defined array of activities. May act as an informal resource for team members with less experience.

Responsibilities

  • Implements detailed, task level, day to day EH&S programs, utilizing the EH&S work process, standards and procedures.

  • Ensures that the Environmental, IH, and Health and Safety aspects of operating discipline are adequate and applied to achieve EH&S performance goals. In most cases, would perform the role of section owner for the EH&S sections of operating discipline.

  • Acts as the Plant resource for related EH&S information on procedures, guidelines and standards.

  • Serves as plant contact for Environmental, IH, and Health and Safety issues.

  • Coaches teams and individuals on EH&S related tasks and activities.

  • Assists in developing and achieving area or plant EH&S goals.

  • Ensures compliance tasks are completed.

  • Performs/coordinates certain Environmental, and IH monitoring, data collection, analyzing and reporting for the Plant.

  • Acts as a responder in the event of an emergency.

  • Environmental focal point supporting wastewater samples and waste shipments, environmental compliance with the environmental specialist etc.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.

  • A minimum of 2 or more years of experience in operations and/or environmental health and safety.

  • Must be willing and able to work on-call support that requires reporting to the plant in the off-hours or weekend to support permitting, EH&S unplanned events, security, and emergency response.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Occupational health/safety degree.

Preferred Skills

  • A good understanding/application of OSHA standards (Dow Life Critical Standards), experience in EH&S role, team, or project.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Software, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Be proficient in computers to perform job tasks.

  • Have strong Interpersonal, Facilitative, and Organizational skills.

  • Effectively interacts with multiple functions and diverse individuals to achieve goals.

  • Demonstrates excellent decision making skills and the ability to prioritize appropriately.

  • Effectively manages multiple competing priorities.

  • Has strong troubleshooting skills.

  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Able to communicate with a very diverse population which is spread across the site.

  • Safety focused.

Physical Requirements

Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Lift, push, and pull up to 55 lbs.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting

  • Stand 50% of the time.

  • Walk for extended periods of time

  • Work at heights, climb stairs and ladders.

  • Work in tight and closed in spaces.

  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to respirator.

  • Work in an area of intense or continuous noise.

  • Work in an area with hazardous materials.

  • Be fit for duty to wear a full-face respirator and SCBA.
