Here’s the scoop - Summary

The Brand Protection Manager is responsible for the oversight of Champion Petfoods’ Brands (Orijen and Acana) including brand risk mitigation, online brand representation, and pricing compliance. This position uses tools and resources to investigate unauthorized uses of the company's brands in the market or online. The Brand Protection Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams across the company, customers, clients, outside consultants, outside counsel, and industry experts to educate, influence, and lead brand monitoring activities and provide expertise for enforcement decisions that will protect Champion Petfoods’ brands. This role is a hybrid role and will work partly from a home-based office and partly from Champion’s offices in either Boulder/Denver, CO or Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Lead strategic brand protection initiative supporting the US business and driving company best practices.

  • Drive awareness and thought leadership by actively contributing as the company subject matter expert to Global and regional brand protection strategy.

  • Manage relationships with agencies, industry associations, law enforcement and government regulators to proactively protect brand reputation in sales channels, enabling successful transformational executions.

  • Manage online brand protection enforcement activities including online infringement review, tagging, tracking, and enforcement of Online Marketplaces.

  • Develop a holistic approach to MAP strategy, processes, and execution – engaging key stakeholders – Legal, Sales, Brand – to ensure policy supports business objectives.

  • Ensure MAP is administered unilaterally across the business, supporting with documentation and training, including the process for MAP holidays/promotions.

  • Cross-functional work with the Sales, Marketing, and Analytic team to analyze market trends in pricing, promotion, and advertising.

  • Ownership of vendors and supporting tools for MAP functional execution (scraping and capabilities).

  • Assist in item traceability to ensure correct custody of product in transit.

  • Consult cross-functional groups around best practices governance, including enforcement of standard operating procedures.

  • Drive a performance-based approach by managing regular progress reporting and monitoring industry trends.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Finance/Accounting, or related field required

  • Anti-Counterfeiting and Brand Protection Certificate preferred.

  • 5+ years’ experience managing a brand online (related to marketplace maintenance, MAP or other related knowledge).

  • High attention to detail and problem-solving abilities, both quantitatively and strategic.

  • Ability to utilize complex data sets and category insights to create insightful narratives.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfort around higher management.

  • High financial acumen with understanding of P&L and various financial statements as a plus.

  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel.
