Fairview Health Services Respiratory Care Assistant in Edina, Minnesota

Overview

This role is for students currently enrolled in a Respiratory Therapist Degree program.

A person in this position would provide routine Respiratory Therapy modalities to patients as appropriate based on this student role and their competency level, this is a position that is considered a transitional role to the Respiratory Therapist while completing all necessary next steps to meeting the requirements of the Respiratory Therapist position. The Respiratory Care Assistant would be required to show competency in Respiratory Therapy modalities prior to assuming RT role and will work under the direct supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist. This position is located at Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN.

Responsibilities Job Description

Performs respiratory therapy duties under the direct supervision of a licensed RT as assigned, including but not limited to:

  • Maintains, changes, and discontinues medical gas.

  • Performs aerosol and humidity therapies.

  • Administers routine airway clearance.

  • Administers lung expansion therapies.

  • Performs Bronchial drainage.

  • Performs ABG (Arterial Blood Gases)

  • Participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

  • Provides patients, families, and other providers in disease management education.

  • Reviews patient’s chart to make recommendations for Plan of care

  • Performs spirometry

Demonstrates effective communication.

  • Communicates effectively with Respiratory Care staff and other Interprofessional team members.

  • Strives to provide excellent customer service

  • Use of AIDET (acknowledge, introduce, duration, explanation and thank you) with patient and families

  • Listen and understand customer needs

  • Uses error prevention skills

Qualifications

Required

Education

  • Graduate of or currently enrolled full-time in CoARC approved program for Respiratory Therapy

  • Must successfully graduate as scheduled, as defined by application at the time of hire

License/Certification/Registration

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
