Responsibilities

Midwives provide prenatal care for low and moderate risk women in the clinic and intrapartum care for all women in labor and delivery in collaboration with our physician colleagues. An obstetrician is always available for assistance as needed and for management of high-risk medical conditions. Approximately 1100 births a year occur at our hospital, with an anticipated volume of 650-700 births for the midwife team.

Mayo Clinic midwives are independent providers practicing at the top of their license within a multidisciplinary obstetrical care team focused on compassionate, expert, and personalized care. We enjoy high-level resource support in a collaborative, multi-specialty practice with access to specialists in maternal fetal medicine, medical genetics, reproductive medicine, and other medical and surgical specialties as needed throughout the Mayo Clinic Enterprise.

The vision for the Certified Nurse Midwives at Mayo Clinic is to provide the best midwifery care in the world by modeling evidence-based midwifery in a team-based approach to care.
