St. Luke's University Health Network Ultrasound Technologist Weekend in Easton, Pennsylvania

Performs ultrasound patient examinations based on approved ultrasound department protocols and procedures. This sonographer will be under the direction of the Ultrasound Manager and in their absence, the Clinical Ultrasound Specialist, and / or Imaging Supervisor. The position will require a significant degree of judgment and self-direction in the performance of assigned duties. The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Is knowledgeable and competent in department scan protocols. Completes a minimum of (1) peer reviews on an annual basis according to Network Managers request and study required for review. Will be responsible for responding to any QA reports from staff Radiologists in regards to technical, quality issues.
Registered Sonographers are required to maintain 30 CME credits for Triennium to remain current in standings with the ARDMS. This is also required for ACR Department accreditation. Employee will be responsible to document current standing on receipt of renewal of certifications in Workday on a yearly basis.
Reviews and prepares the daily schedule with all Nursing floors, and Patient Care Coordinator at the beginning of each shift. Reviews all patient records, Radiology reports and images in EPIC that are pertinent to the study being performed. Responsible for completing all patient related duties including but not limited to Beginning and Ending an exam in EPIC (completed correct image orders and charges), as well as verifying all performed studies in PACS prior to days end.
Ultrasound rooms are restocked on a daily basis either at the end or beginning of the shift with laundry and general supplies. At the end of each study room should be cleaned and ready for the next patient. Equipment is cleaned after every patient. Hand washing prior to and after every patient is adhered to without exception.
Completes yearly-required competency assessments as set by the Ultrasound Manager, the Entity Network Job Class Code Number 4199Clinical Ultrasound Specialist and the Hospital Education Department (in E-Learning).
Demonstrates competency in the use of EPIC, PACS and telephone systems appropriate for their job responsibilities.
Must be knowledgeable in ordering, scheduling and assessing scripts or orders for studies that are appropriate for the study being performed. Must know appropriate Ultrasound ordering codes and be able to assist any ordering Physician in the use and application of these codes. Must be proficient in revising orders
Assist staff Radiologist and or Physician Assistants in preparing for invasive procedures, by setting up trays using sterile techniques, gathering necessary supplies and paperwork,, assisting during procedures and clean up using Universal Precautions and proper sharps disposal. Transports any laboratory samples to the lab following the procedures.
Must have knowledge of handling, disposal and clean up of spills of all HAZ-MAT materials in the Ultrasound Department, including but not limited, to Hydrogen Peroxide (Trophon chemical), and formalin (used to preserve specimens). Must be aware of Global Harmonization System (new universal signs for hazardous material, fire etc).
Knows how to find Hospital and Department Polices when needed. Follows procedures to accommodate patients with disabilities (documentation for assistance with language, hearing and sight disabilities.
Accurately adheres to downtime procedures to assure appropriate information is available resulting in excellent continuity of patient care.
Annual peer review of images meets department standards.
Exhibits the ability to work with others, is considerate of others work ethics, follows and takes directions well.
Accountable for quality of digital images sent to PACS. Verify correct patient is selected from worklist, ensures accuracy of Medical Record information prior to being sent to PACS.
Maintain competence in the use of the Patient Transport System. Within EPIC now*
Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external). Responsible for the success of the department to achieve excellent Patient Satisfaction, each and every encounter. AIDET will be practiced on every patient. Every patient should receive patient education. Service Recovery cards are available when patient expectations are not met.
Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/Entity as well as the proper release of information.
Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Frequent use of fingers and hands in operating equipment and for paperwork. Standing and walking for up to 7 hours per day in 60 minute increments. Sitting for up to 1 hour per day in 15 minute increments. Pushing, pulling and lifting patients and litters up to 300 pounds with assistance. Lifting and moving objects up to 40 pounds. Must be able to do frequent bends, stoops and crouches. Must be able to reach above shoulder level. Must be able to hear and see as it relates to normal hearing and vision
EDUCATION:
Graduate of an ARRT or ARDMS recognized education program, ARRT or ARDMS Registered
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of one year hospital experience, Radiology Department experience helpful and a minimum of two years of Ultrasound scanning experience in the area of abdominal, OB-GYN, small parts and some experience in vascular sonography. ARDMS registry required. Certification in Abdomen and OB required within one year of hire date. Current CPR certification required. Knowledge of computer basics required. Registry in Vascular Technology preferred.
