Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Curriculum Development Specialist to support curriculum and content development and administrative efforts within the College of Human Medicine and the College of Osteopathic Medicine. This role requires a candidate with a strong background in educational technology and experience working in higher education, with excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail. In this role, the Curriculum Development Specialist will collaborate with Information Technology staff, basic science faculty, health care professionals, and academic program staff to provide an optimal learning experience for Michigan State University medical students.

Specific job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Cultivate a deep knowledge of current and emerging issues in innovative pedagogy, assessment, instructional technology, and best practices in higher education, and identify relevant initiatives for implementation of same.
  • Plan, develop, organize, promote, implement, monitor, integrate, and evaluate instructional technology, accessibility compliance, instructional design, online learning, learning assessment, faculty development, and budgeting related to teaching and learning and innovative learning concepts and practices.
  • Facilitate development of organizational resources, project management, and training for initiatives related to instructional design and technology, accessibility, assessment, and best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with campuswide MSU teaching and learning offices and initiatives. Build effective and collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, platform providers, and other relevant professional organizations and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with faculty colleagues to develop online courses, including exam preparation and compliance with web accessibility requirements.
  • Assume ownership of project success, provide dedicated leadership and seek support as needed.

Minimum Requirements
  • MA/MS in field related to Educational Technology or Biological Science Education
  • 3 or more years of experience working in an academic environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with an interdisciplinary, cross-college team
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrate interest in building inclusive environments.
  • Experience with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Google Team Drive, Microsoft Suites (including SharePoint, Teams)
  • Experience with video and audio editing and post-production workflow in Camtasia
Desired Qualifications
  • STEM Education, with experience in Human or Animal Biology
  • Experience developing and managing academic technological workflow.
  • Experience with instructional activity development and teaching
  • Experience with PlayPosit, D2L, TopHat, iClicker
  • Knowledge of MediaSpace infrastructure and channels with basic editing
