Position Summary

The School of Packaging has 1 research position available for a postdoctoral candidate. Candidates are encouraged to apply if they are interested in getting advanced training in produce packaging.

The postdoctoral candidate will be responsible for setting up experiments of perishables in no MAP, MAP and active packaging, gas analysis using gas chromatography, volatile analysis and quantification using GC/mass spectrometry, quality analyses of perishable plant products, interfacing with a diverse cadre of graduate students and research scholars to support sensory evaluations, microbiological studies and design and validation of novel packaging, and general lab upkeep. The postdoctoral candidate will perform statistical analysis or will interpreted statistical results, and will write reports and publications. The postdoctoral candidate will support ongoing projects lead by other team members in addition to leading their projects. The postdoctoral candidate will directly report to Dr. Almenar. The position is available for a minimum of 6 months as long as the performance requirements (discussed prior to contract signature) are met.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Plant sciences

Minimum Requirements

Have an earned PhD degree in in plant sciences (PhD), experienced in postharvest biology. Excellent writing and communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

The candidate should be highly familiar with the fresh cut produce in MAP, sensory analysis, and operation and maintenance of analytical equipment (e.g., gas chromatographs, texturometer, respiration meter). Previous experience in writing reports and paper publication. Previous experience in mentoring graduate students. Postdoctoral fellows with prior experimental skills are encouraged to apply, who will get advanced training, especially in produce packaging, during their stay in Dr. Almenar group.
