Position Summary

Prevention, Outreach and Education Department Prevention Program Coordinator

Focus: Anti-Discrimination Policy Training, Outreach and Engagement

Michigan State University is developing a team with a primary focus on educating the university community on Anti-Discrimination policy as part of a collaborative effort to prevent discrimination, relationship violence, stalking, and sexual misconduct. The Prevention Program Coordinator is a critical piece of this network. This position has a focus on the supervision, creation and oversight of efforts that support and educate Michigan State University community members on the anti-discrimination policy.

The program coordinator is an experienced professional with extended knowledge on the prevention of discrimination and gender-based harassment. This position works within a team of program managers to create a university network of programs for all employees and students. This position has a specialized focus of support and prevention education related (but not limited) to the anti-discrimination policy and will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Create trainings and educational opportunities specifically for employees and students regarding the Anti-discrimination Policy at MSU

  • Provide supervision to prevention education specialist(s) and practicum/interns working within the department including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, professional development, evaluation and ongoing support.

  • Manage program budget related to events and trainings provided by this unit.

  • Create a collaborative advisory group to inform educational efforts and utilize feedback to improve initiatives.

  • Work with the POE leadership and other POE team members to facilitate events to engage campus community and increase dialogue around the anti-discrimination policy.

  • Provide council and leadership within the POE department to Executive Director, other members of POE leadership team and specialist/management teams.

  • Remain up to date on research, policy and best practices related to the prevention of discrimination, sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking.

  • Work collaboratively with university and community partners

  • Create assessment tools to evaluate programming.

  • Facilitate trainings, workshops and other presentations as needed.

  • Represent POE in response to requests from other departments and community partners.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Educational Systems development, Instructional Technology Systems, Instructional Science or a related educational programs development area, and/or a field which corresponds to the particular department of employment; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in the design, development and presentation of instructional programs using software or tools related to the operational activities of the employing unit; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May also require work experience in a specified field.

Desired Qualifications

Minimum of a Master’s degree in social work, student affairs, public health, psychology, or related field; Preferred experience in working with organizations to deliver services to people impacted by discrimination, sexual assault, dating/domestic violence or stalking; Knowledge of relevant federal policies, including Title IX and Clery Act; Solid understanding of diversity, general social justice issues, and intersectionality; Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion, sensitivity, and neutrality; Ability to make sound decisions in urgent situations; Strong oral and written communication skills; Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively; Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
