Job Summary:

Pratt & Whitney (P&W) is seeking a Safety Management System Integration Lead within the Safety Management System (SMS) team in East Hartford, CT responsible for implementing and integrating Safety Risk Management principles and strategies across the company. One primary objective of P&W’s Safety Management System is to ensure product safety hazards are identified, triaged, assessed for risk, and mitigated to as-low-as-reasonably-practicable (ALARP) throughout product life cycle. The Safety Management System Integration Lead will serve a vital role in achieving this objective by leading two key risk management processes, the employee Report-A-Concern (RAC) process and Safety Ambassador process, while also working with cross-functional leaders and technical experts to promote broad enterprise support of the SMS and integrate with other company-wide risk management processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mature and lead employee Report-A-Concern (RAC) process for P&W’s Safety Management System (SMS).

  • Lead the Product Safety Ambassador program and ensure SMS training and promotion activities are integrated across P&W sites and organizations.

  • Ensure appropriate triage, review and technical disposition of potential hazards received via various channels to include employee reports, audit findings, site visits, read across, safety surveys, or technical safety issue management.

  • Work closely with a cross-functional team of experts to enable full integration of Safety Risk Management processes and appropriate technical ownership, management, and report-out on hazards, risk levels, and mitigation strategies.

  • Oversee Safety Issue Management (SIM) process adherence, including leading outsourcing or P&W Puerto Rico team members around administration and audit of the SIM database and process.

  • Create metrics, analytics, trend data, and presentation material to articulate the health of SMS processes to leadership.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering ​

  • 8+ years of experience in Design, Structures, Manufacturing, or Quality Engineering in Aerospace or 5+ years’ experience with an Advanced Degree.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of SMS principles and ability to communicate these principles to broad audiences

  • Demonstrated skill in leading and managing a cross-functional team.

  • Familiar with different safety risk management tools

  • Familiar with a variety of Engineering, Operations and Quality processes.

  • Skilled in working with Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and information systems.

  • Experience in using CORE tools for continuous process improvement.

  • Strong understanding of safety processes and ability to make appropriate risk-based decisions.

  • Excellent communication skills and experience communicating to Executive leadership.

  • Ability to work independently without oversight.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
