Job Summary

The Sr. Manager Operations Insourcing M&A will lead the transition of functions historically outsourced to suppliers into in-house operations. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of manufacturing and operations, combined with a strong background in mergers and acquisitions (M&A). This role focuses on evaluating and integrating business functions previously managed by external partners, ensuring a smooth and efficient transition. The Manager will be responsible for managing the insourcing process, including financial planning, due diligence, risk assessment, and stakeholder collaboration.

This position reports directly to the VP of Operations and plays a key role in driving strategic initiatives to optimize internal operations. Additionally, this role will focus on the insourcing of key business areas and operations already identified as critical for the company’s future success, with particular attention to the seamless integration of new products into existing or new manufacturing operations.

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions

Evaluate and Manage Insourcing Opportunities: Assess and identify outsourced functions suitable for insourcing, conducting thorough evaluations of strategic impact, financial viability, and operational risks. Oversee the insourcing process from due diligence through to integration, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

  • M&A Project Management: Lead and manage the end-to-end lifecycle of insourcing projects, including scoping, financial planning, and execution. Ensure timely, on-budget delivery and smooth transitions from outsourced suppliers to in-house operations.

  • Financial Modeling & Risk Analysis: Develop and maintain financial models to evaluate the cost-benefit, profitability, and P&L impacts of insourcing efforts. Identify potential risks and formulate mitigation strategies to ensure successful integration.

  • New Product Integration: Manage the seamless integration of new products into existing or new manufacturing operations, working closely with Product Development, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to ensure operational readiness, scalability, and efficiency.

  • Process Design & Optimization: Design and implement optimized workflows and processes for newly insourced products, focusing on quality, cost, lead time, and scalability. Continuously refine processes to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal stakeholders, including Product Development, Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain, Quality, and senior leadership, to ensure successful product integration and alignment with company objectives.

  • Cost & Budget Management: Develop and manage budgets for insourcing initiatives, identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining high-quality standards and operational excellence.

  • Supplier Transition & Integration: Oversee the transition from external suppliers to in-house production, managing logistics, vendor relationships, and establishing internal capabilities to ensure a smooth and effective transition.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all insourced products meet internal and external quality standards and regulatory requirements by working with Quality Assurance teams to develop and implement robust quality control processes.

  • Training & Development: Lead the training and development efforts for internal teams, ensuring smooth adoption of new product processes and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives to optimize internal processes, improve efficiency, and reduce waste, incorporating feedback from product integration efforts.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Negotiation Support: Collaborate with key stakeholders across finance, operations, legal, and supply chain functions. Assist in negotiating and closing the transition agreements with suppliers as needed. Ensure contracts, terms, and conditions are clearly defined for the successful shift from outsourced to in-house operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred).

  • 10+ years of experience in operations management, with a focus on product insourcing, supply chain management, or manufacturing operations with 5 years management experience.

  • Proven track record of managing complex projects related to product insourcing, transition, or scale-up in a manufacturing or operations environment.

  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, process optimization, and cost management techniques.

  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.

  • Strong leadership abilities with experience managing cross-functional teams and collaborating with various departments.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.

  • Experience in risk management and identifying cost-saving opportunities while ensuring high-quality standards.

  • Proficient in project management software, ERP systems, and MS Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., medical devices, pharmaceuticals, automotive) is a plus.

  • Familiarity with Six Sigma or Lean certifications (Black Belt or Green Belt) is highly desirable.

  • Experience with product lifecycle management and introduction of new product lines is a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Full-time, on-site position.

  • Occasional travel may be required to oversee product insourcing activities, supplier relationships, or site visits.
