At UMD's Career Center, we help our students and alumni to: EXPLORE how their interests, skills, values, strengths, & identities influence their educational and career roadmap. ENGAGE in meaningful experiences to shape students' roadmap. DESIGN their roadmap and ways to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and abilities to employers and/or graduate or professional schools. We support all majors through our centralized office that guides almost 9,500 undergraduate and graduate students plus alumni. This position supports students, develops connections, and grows partnerships between our stakeholders that include employers, students, alumni, faculty, and staff to maximize student career opportunities. Academic Affairs link: https://evcaa.d.umn.edu/about The Employer Engagement Associate's primary purpose is to: Support the campuswide Employer Engagement Program by strategically developing new connections and growing existing partnerships between multiple stakeholders, including employers, alumni, faculty, internship coordinators, and staff that serves undergraduate and graduate students from each of the four UMD collegiate units (CAHSS, CEHSP, LSBE, and SCSE). Assist in creating, planning and implementing experiences that allow employers, students, faculty, and staff to connect for recruiting and networking purposes in a safe and professional learning environment. Promote overall use and provide education on Handshake. Collaborate with the department, division, campus, system, and colleagues on employer engagement initiatives and strategic plan priorities. RESPONSIBILITIES This role is committed to delivering exceptional employer and student support, being welcoming to all, and striving for continuous improvement and innovation. This work includes: Employer Engagement Partnership & Program Coordination (60%) Actively participate in regular relationship building meetings and events with corporate recruiters, alumni, and human resources professionals to discuss hiring needs. Assist in the development of employer-based programming including biannual, large scale career fairs. Assist in creating, planning and implementing experiences that allow employers, students, faculty, and staff to connect for recruiting and networking purposes in a safe and professional learning environment. Engage with UMD student organizations to plan and promote career development and employer engagement. Collaborate with Collegiate Units, Professional Advisors, Office of Diversity and Inclusion staff, Alumni Relations, and International Student Services staff to align goals and streamline services to external partners, and coordinate promotion of internships and jobs opportunities for students. Collaborate with UMD, UMN systemwide, and Twin Ports Career Center partners on career experiences that serve our students and alumni. Promote overall use of Handshake with students, staff, faculty, and employers. Technology & Data (30%) Participate in system wide workgroups including UMN's Handshake Users Group and Employer Engagement Salesforce Project. Understand and utilize Handshake effectively to compile and share Employer Engagement data. Update Employer section of website with information on Employer Engagement initiatives and resources for employers. Strategic Planning & Professional Development (1 %) Assist with Career Center Drop-ins and department/division/systemwide events. Commitment to ongoing social justice and racial equity work in order to identify, challenge, and remove barriers to access at the individual, community, and system level. Participate in meetings, conferences, events, and professional associations to expand professional skills and knowledge to keep current on best practices and trends within the career development and higher education fields. Other duties and special projects as appropriate to the individual's background, experience, and interests that support the department's strategic plan. Qualifications Required: BA/BS degree, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years. Preferred: Demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion including experience working with individuals with varying identities and backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to work with office technology, which may include Handshake, LinkedIn, Canva, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace. Proven skill in being flexible & maintaining a positive attitude in high-pressure settings. Demonstrated experience working with students of color, international students, students from various diverse backgrounds and identities, and/or 1st generation college students. Experience with event organization and coordination. Proven experience in building strong relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders including students, alumni, employers, faculty, and staff. Experience in a higher education setting or recruiting environment. Demonstrated ability to facilitate and/or present to groups. Experience with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system like Salesforce or similar.
