POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications team is dedicated to the impactful storytelling of Bedrock’s mission and vision for Detroit & Cleveland. The Director, Communications helps develop and execute strategic communications plans, guide internal and external communications efforts, and partner with a variety of stakeholders, including media, and members across the Rock Family of Companies (FOC). The Director reports to the Vice President, Communications and is based in Detroit.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In partnership with the Vice President, Communications, creates, refines, and executes proactive and targeted internal and external communication strategies to enhance our brand reputation, engage team members, and effectively communicate messaging and storytelling that aligns with our mission, vision, and business objectives.

  • Leads the development and execution of internal communication to ensure team members are informed and engaged with the content.

  • Develops and leads the implementation of initiatives to improve internal communication channels, intranet content, and team member-focused engagement campaigns.

  • Leads and/or supports the development and execution of external communication strategies, including media relations, public relations, and brand messaging and storytelling.

  • Creates innovative ways to communicate business area-level messages across various communication platforms and works collaboratively ensuring consistent messaging and brand voice across all communication channels.

  • Cultivates and maintains a strong and diverse network of media contacts on a national, regional, and local level.

  • Establishes key performance indicators and metrics to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of communications efforts; applies results to make business decisions.

  • Works collaboratively across the company to supports the development and implementation of communication-related policies and procedures

  • Demonstrates strategic thinking and decision-making abilities, effectively navigating complexity and/or uncertainty to drive team and functional success

  • Guides and evaluates the work of direct reports and select team members

  • Leads by example through embodiment of the organization's values and ethical principles, promoting a culture of collaboration, integrity, accountability, and transparency.

  • Demonstrates adaptability in leading through challenges and change with a positive approach.

  • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships across the Rock Family of Companies (FOC), as well as internal teams and external partners.

  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with Bedrock policies and procedures.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or a related field or equivalent education, training, and experience (required)

  • Approximately 10 years of related experience (required)

  • Minimum of 5 years of management or leadership experience (required)

  • Extensive experience developing communications strategies, messaging, and media materials

  • Procuring national, regional, and local earned media coverage (print, online and broadcast)

  • Strong writing, editing and presentation skills

  • Experience in defining and carrying out crisis communications and reputation management efforts

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and organizational capabilities

  • High attention to detail, critical and strategic thinking

  • Experience in event planning, project management and contract negotiation

  • Possesses strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft and Google suites including Word/Excel/Google sheets

  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
