R&D Engineer/Scientist I – SEM/TEM Scientist

Honeywell UOP is seeking a highly organized, qualified R&D scientist with hands-on laboratory experience to play a supporting role in servicing electron microscopy efforts within the Materials Characterization department, part of UOP’s Research & Development organization.
In this entry-level position a successful candidate will effectively be able to maintain and operate Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) and Scanning/Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM/STEM). The individual will need to be able to compile and process large volumes of data and the ability to convey results to customers. The individual will work on teams and interact with and collaborate with engineers and scientists from across Research, Development, and Field Services. For a successful candidate the position will provide an intellectual challenge and the ability to contribute as a member on a team on a variety of complex materials and characterization problems.

The annual base salary range for this position is $65,000-$81,500. Please note that this
salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various
factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and
responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education
and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
YOU MUST HAVE
At least 2-years’ hands-on experience working in a laboratory setting
At least 2-years’ hands-on experience working with SEM
At least 2-years’ hands-on experience using Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX)
At least 1 year experience working with TEM/STEM
WE VALUE
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or related field
Strong theoretical and operational knowledge of SEM
Strong theoretical and operational knowledge of TEM/STEM
Strong theoretical and operational knowledge of EDX
Experience operating optical microscopes
Experience in characterization of heterogeneous catalysts, molecular sieves, and nanomaterials
Well-organized individual able to balance multiple tasks simultaneously
Well-versed in documentation (visual management, note taking, etc.)
Experienced team-player capable of enabling others to flourish
Genuine curiosity in understanding science in general (catalysis, etc.)
Ability to act with urgency and pivot in dynamic research-based environment
Ideal candidates are highly organized, can consistently demonstrating technical excellence, safety conscious, comfortable working a supporting role and working in a lab-based team environment
