Job Description

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is looking to fill a vacant Administrative Assistant 2position which is commonly referred to as a Criminal History Records Auditor position.

The Department works in conjunction with federal, state and local jurisdictions of the criminal justice community to provide for the safety of persons living in, or traveling through the State of Iowa.

    Job Description:

    The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is looking to fill a vacant Administrative Assistant 2 position which is commonly referred to as a Criminal History Records Auditor position which encompasses reviewing, documenting, screening, classifying and auditing CCH records in accordance with Iowa Code for compliance and quality assurance within the 33 counties in central Iowa. The CCH Auditor plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of Iowa's criminal history records with coordination with of other DCI personnel in the CCH Records and Identification Unit.

    Criminal history audits are performed of all sheriff's offices, police departments, clerks of court, juvenile court services and county attorneys. This involves research of the source data submitted by those agencies. Comparison is made with arrest fingerprint cards and court dispositions as required by Chapters 690 and 692 of the Iowa code and submitted within the time frames required.

    Key responsibilities include ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of these records by modifying, verifying, and analyzing data across multiple databases and law enforcement agencies daily.

    The CCH Auditor personally conducts training sessions for criminal justice agencies. They meet and communicate with each agency in their respective 33 Iowa counties on a frequent basis. They receive and answer questions concerning criminal history records daily, via personal contact, email or phone and respond back in a correct and professional manner.

    The CCH Auditor has access to the Iowa / NCIC System and this requires a certification through the State of Iowa within 6 months of employment at no expense to the employee. The CCH Auditor is provided a DCI state vehicle for these duties and must possess a valid driver's license while maintaining compliance with all State of Iowa vehicle and transportation policies/procedures.

    This position isNOT a telework or work from home position and this individual will have an office located at DCI Headquarters.

    Other Information

    • Applicants must be able to pass through a background investigation conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in any field, and experience equal to one year of full-time administrative support (e.g., screening visitors and callers; opening/distributing mail, typing/proofing documents, letters, and reports; organizing files; scheduling meetings/appointments; arranging travel; processing travel claims; ordering supplies/equipment) or technical support work (e.g., determining budget, personnel, and equipment needs; compiling/evaluating statistical, historical, economic, business, financial or technical program data; interpreting or securing compliance with laws, rules and regulations; reviewing operating records/reports and evaluating their effectiveness).

  • A total of five years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one) where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to 12 months of full-time work as an Administrative Assistant 1.
