Description: Position Summary
The University of Denver is the oldest independent university in the Rocky Mountain region, with approximately 12,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. DU is classified as a Doctoral/Research University with very high research activity. Our diverse and dynamic faculty of 12 includes four women and come from seven different countries. We provide an attentive, hands-on research and learning community for undergraduate and graduate students up through the PhD level. The Department of Physics and Astronomy is accepting expressions of interest for adjunct faculty position in the academic year 2023/24, as follows:
- Descriptive Astronomy (PHYS 1050) in Autumn Quarter 2023 (2 sections)
- Solar System Astronomy (PHYS 1070) in Winter Quarter 2024 (2 sections)
- Cosmology (PHYS 1090) in Spring Quarter 2024 (2 sections) All courses are taught three days per week at the historic Chamberlin Observatory in the evenings. A successful candidate must be familiar with classic telescope use and operation and the principles of astronomy, as practiced during the late 19th century, as it enables students to be provided with explanations of the state of the art then, as well as now, in terms of the development of astrophysics over time. The course instructor is also required to undergo a mandatory telescope operator certification process. While the University's administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. Course Rate
The course rate for this position ranges from $4,772 (Master's degree) -$5,725 (PhD degree).
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
