University Of Denver Adjunct Faculty, Department Of History in Denver, Colorado

The History Department within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences offers history courses to undergraduate students in a variety of different geographical areas and periods, taught by our thirteen faculty members. Our classes are writing and reading intensive with rigorous in-class discussions, and opportunities to participate in hands-on historical research, service-learning projects, and internships. Faculty and students appreciate the small class sizes and close relationships they develop. All of our 80-100 history majors are required to engage in a senior capstone project, a 25-30 page paper based on primary source research and integration of secondary source materials. This rigorous endeavor provides students with the opportunity to learn about, and participate in, a focused area of history. Position Summary

The Department of History is looking to hire adjunct faculty in the following fields for academic year 2024-2025: modern Europe, modern Middle East, 19th and 20th century US, Latin America. All courses are taught at the undergraduate level and will take place across 3 academic quarters (Fall, Winter, and Spring).

Essential Functions

Teach an in person course on DU's main campus Instruct undergraduate students

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to teach introductory courses for the Common Curriculum. Experience in culturally diverse settings. Background working with culturally diverse populations. Ability to mentor students working on History research papers.

Required Qualifications

MA, or equivalent, in History or related field

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in History or a related field

Working Environment

Standard office environment. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs. with assistance.

Work Schedule

While the University's administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. Course Rate

The course rate for this position is $4,772 per four credit course.
