This is an exempt level position.

Job Summary:

The Decatur Corn Plant is seeking a process engineering supervisor with the skills to lead a sub-team of our process engineers to drive operational efficiencies and optimize our processes. As a member of the Decatur Corn Plant engineering team, this colleague will have the opportunity to collaborate with Corn Network colleagues by utilizing engineering skills to support operational excellence and improved plant reliability. This position is responsible for process improvements for production in the finishing areas of the Corn Plant. This role will partner with the production departments to lead improvements from conception though start-up utilizing engineering and performance excellence principles to operate, troubleshoot, and improve chemical and mechanical processes. It is also responsible for reviewing and understanding area department costs, yields, quality, and process performance.

This position provides an opportunity for an experienced engineer to build their leadership acumen within the engineering team, while still being able to contribute as an individual in an engineering facet to have a positive impact on the success of our business. Direct management of a group of our process engineers will help this individual guide their direct reports to gain first hand exposure to leadership of employees, process optimization, equipment trouble-shooting and dealing with the myriad of process challenges faced routinely.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identifies and complies with safety, food safety and environmental requirements during personal and direct report’s work.

  • Partner with Department Superintendents in developing solutions for a more efficient operation.

  • Assess current department KPIs and by using data and a fact based approach to lead improvements in energy consumption, chemical consumption and production rate.

  • Identifies improvement opportunities and leads direct report’s critical KPI development plans in their area.

  • Analyzes existing processes for cost savings, reliability, and performance improvement opportunities, working collaboratively with engineering and operations colleagues to implement solutions to address.

  • Interacts with maintenance, controls, process, and quality personnel in planning for and the development of process improvements, and in team’s projects.

  • Leads their team and provides training and mentoring to other direct reports and other colleagues.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • B.S. in Chemical, Mechanical, Agricultural Engineering or technical equivalent.

  • 5+ years of plant operations experience (preferred).

  • 2-3 years of plant process engineering experience (preferred).

  • Able to manage a team of 5+ process engineers with varying backgrounds to drive departmental success.

  • Demonstrated problem solving.

  • Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills are necessary to be a valued colleague in the team. Interpersonal skills employed include handling conflict, motivating personnel, as well as instructing/training/mentoring less experienced engineers. The candidate must be able to effectively interact with multiple employees and managers throughout the location.

  • Employee is expected to assist in developing direct reports and other colleagues through training, technical support mentoring, personal growth development.

  • Experience with equipment troubleshooting, including basic knowledge of maintenance PM activities, operational KPI development, control systems troubleshooting, data analytics (PI, PIaF, Excel).

  • Project management experience, including past experience with budgeting and scheduling projects, and working with contractors, is preferred.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to consolidate data and findings from the team during plant or departmental review and responses. Written and verbal communication of personal and direct report project activities and key metrics shall be provided to managers and other stakeholders as needed.

  • Work closely with multiple departments and across company job functions.

  • Ability to look beyond the task at hand, anticipate challenges, and develop options to overcome them.

  • Effective interaction with multiple employees and managers throughout area departments to prioritize demands.

  • Continuous improvement utilizing independent judgment to solve problems and have excellent organizational skills in order to effectively handle multiple ongoing tasks.

  • Proactive participation in safety, environmental, and quality activities is expected to ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.

  • General knowledge of software systems such as PI, Maximo, Microsoft Office applications (Project, Excel, Word, and SharePoint), and AutoCAD.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

The pay range for this position is expected to be between:

$70,400.00 - $131,600.00
